Advantages: Psychological...
Disadvantages: ...but then I'm nuts
You do realise that there are times when one can be distinctly boring? This could just be one of those times when I slip into the endless chatter of Dooyoo debate (?) as…erm…well…I thought I’d mention (AGAIN *yawn*) that I’m off to Noooooo York on Monday. I can’t remember mentioning this before and thought you should all know *snigger*. Now I know that there are only a handful of hardy souls left reading on Dooyoo and by the time you’ve finished this you’ll realise why there are only a handful of hardy souls reading on Dooyoo but, hey, indulge me (please?). Yep, I shall be flying from Heathrow and off into a week of adventure in one of the world’s liveliest cities in just a few days time. Sadly, I won’t be able to get overly raucous as I shall be accompanied by my rather *stern wife and sensible children so hitting the extremes of NY club life seems unlikely. I suspect that finding a zoo in Central Park will be the order of the day but then I am a middle-aged old miffer with a nuclear family so what you gonna do? (Is it just me or are dollars just like Monopoly money?)
However, when you do commit to a break at Easter, it does leave the rest of the year to think about. I mean, I can hardly face the prospect of not getting away again so it pays to consider your summer holiday. In my case, the thought of a fortnight away somewhere keeps me relatively sane. Saying that, there are lots of reasons why people feel the need to get away and it doesn’t have to be for a fortnight after all. For me, the single biggest advantage in taking a summer break is the psychological benefits from simply escaping everything to do with where you live and climbing into a completely different world for a while. (lecture) It can’t be overstated how good this is for you so it has to be recommended for all even if it’s a couple of days in Bognor Regis! (/lecture)
I do remember with great fondness our week in Scotland last Easter. I looked up a cottage via random searches on Google resulting in our firstest ever trip to the land of dangling sporrans and dangerous haggi (or is that haggises?). We went to Sterlingshire and just had THE most wonderful week away from the daily intrusions of satellite TV, chattering PCs and a way of life that gets faster by the day/hour/minute/second. Scotland really is a stunningly beautiful place. We visited several Lochs including Ness and Lomand, toured through The Highlands and even got caught in The Trossacks. This got me thinking as to the kind of holiday we prefer these days. We’ve done the lying on the beach thing; getting fried alive to show off a tan colour to other people who had also been lying there all day being fried alive and getting a tan. It doesn’t seem that long ago when I was on some Spanish island, gerrin’ laced wiv da lads, looking at the ladies and using all those corny chat up lines that get you that holiday romance even if it’s just a one night stand (before I was married I hasten to add). Nope, the scenic holiday full of vistas and interesting walks seems to be much more our scene these days.
Sooooooo……earlier this year I hit the Google search again for a trip to Ireland. I’ve never been to the Emerald Isle so I did ask a few people from these ‘ere sites for advice. The general view was to try the West Coast. I finally decided on County Kerry. We will be visiting Anascaul along with my parents-in-law who’ve decided to holiday with us. To be honest, I’m looking forward to going to Ireland as much as I am doing all the tourist traps in NY. The part of Ireland we are visiting has mountains, sea and plenty of scenery to keep us interested whilst I am told that the locals are very friendly. An Irish pal of mine tells me that we should be able to find a pub where we can get a nice Irish meal, chill out wiv da kids and listen to a good ‘ole traditional Irish band striking up to keep the locals entertained with a few ditties. It really does sound like heaven. Curiously, even the prospect of standing on the beach and looking out into the horizon intrigues me because it won’t be a sea I’ll be looking out into but the Atlantic Ocean. If I drew a line at 180 degrees from my vantage point for a few thousand miles I’d end up in the US of A *reader rolls eyes* Oh well, it excites me anyway….and there’s the prospect of seeing dolphins and stuff.
There does seem to be a tip in here somewhere in that I’ve booked my last 3 holidays over the Net with few problems and little fuss. I must admit to liking that lack of human intervention but then I’m an anti-social so and so I guess. I’m sure that there are dangers with doing it this way but cottages can be found by searching and I’ve organised my forthcoming American Adventure via Expedia.co.uk so as long as you have a telephone number to back up the online aspect then it seems a cheaper, more efficient way to organise holidays and trips.
Ho hum…thanks for reading and see you all when I get back. Perhaps you may want to ponder your own forthcoming summer excursion. You could always write about it, of course, and I’m sure the travel guides will enjoy reading and commenting even if there’s nobody else around on Dooyoo these days.
TTFN and a HAAAAAAAAAAAPPY EASTER folks!!

*She ain’t stern really, just bossy wiv me….and my kids aren’t sensible at all.
Foot note: Since posting it seems that the consensus is that this might make a good challenge type thingy. Do join in cos it would be nice to see Dooyoo busier. If you leave me a note in my Tooyoo GB I'll be happy to read your effort *worries about Nednod's already*

By the way, I wanted you to know that I've put my 7 Brides for 7 Brothers review into the right category. I hope DooYoo will delete the wrong placed one soon.
