It has been five years since we went on a summer holiday, and just like buses you wait ages for one, and two turn up at once.

Yes, shockingly we are going on two holidays this year. The first will be in May, and we have hired a gîte in France for a week (La Palmyre),with my sister and her family, so there will be 8 of us altogether. We've actually managed to make this holiday very economical (excluding spending money). Firstly by hiring the gîte, because the cost it per cottage not per person, and secondly by using Tesco Clubcard vouchers to pay for the jaunt through the channel tunnel.

I've looked up the area on the internet of course, and have made plans for visiting the zoo and beach. Although I'm not really one for staying at the beach all day, despite lashings of sun cream I tend to burn easily. So ideally a holiday for me includes lots of shade with a little bit of sun. I also find sitting on a beach a bit dull, and prefer to be looking round a castle or stately home, but obviously the kids prefer being outside, so it's always a lot of compromising on my part.

The only bit I'm not looking forward to is the drive down, luckily my sister's children are both adults and can both drive, so the driving of the two cars can be split between 5. Even so, it's an awful long journey, especially on the other side of the channel.

Our second holiday I have spoke about before in my review of Opodo. In August we are off the Florida, courtesy of my mum, and the money she left to the kids in her will.

The kids are certainly excited about this holiday, and I have to admit I am myself, I love rollercoasters and theme parks.

Again I'm dreading the journey, I have pondered reserving seats early to make sure my seat is the opposite end of the cabin to the kids, oops I mean booking early to make sure we're all seated together lol. Being cooped up on an aeroplane never fills me with joy.

But hopefully the rewards of a wonderful holiday will more than make up for the journey.

Again I have made plans of what we will do, where we will go etc. But the chances are they'll all fall apart immediately and I'll never get the kids out of the pool at the villa we've hired!

Either way I'm really looking forward to summer this year, we've had a few set backs lately and the kids deserve a treat.

Summary: Summer sun, you can't beat it.
