Advantages: What am I doing?

Disadvantages: What am I doing?

Well, I'm doing Camp America this summer.
I'm apprehensive/excited and don't know quite what will happen - isn't that the beauty of the unknown? I don't know! I've never done the unknown.
My first ever proper adventure!

Camp America(www.campamerica.co.uk)is basically a good way of getting to New York for free (and back the way) and being kept alive in nice surroundings, by a nice family business, and being totally exhausted by mad American children at the same time. ( I have written a 'fully crowned' opinion on the subject of Camp America - if you happen to be interested - PLUG!)
I'll be working on the Kids Camp in the Catskill Mountains for nine weeks at the beginning of the summer, which I'm sure will be a wonderful experience - but it's the month of travel afterwards that I'm totally terrified of.
I'm going somewhere that I don't know anyone, and I'm just praying that they're not all freaks and I'll find some people that I can travel with afterwards!
What if they have all embraced the love of Jesus and they want to take me with them?!
HELP!
All the people I've talked to whom have gone have loved it, and I'm sure I'll be fine, I tell myself. But I'm pretty near the Appalacian Mountains and I can see myself on a camping trip gone wrong and having a Deliverance-style experience with the locals.

STOP BEING SUCH A WUSS!

If all else fails, I do have family in Michigan, who just happen to live in a Mansion with stables etc. - obviously very distant relatives! But I could always go there.
My basic plan, if I do find some kindred spirits, is to travel up to Maine and down through Boston, New York, New Jersey and to New Orleans - maybe even Miami! Who Knows.
Trek America (www.trekamerica.com) do amazing tours, ranging from £250ish to £1500ish - which can last from only seven days up to over two months. This would involve prett
y rough camping, but I might be up for that after the safety of three months on a god-fearing childrens camp.

Trek America takes small groups, of about 13 people, on varied tours around America. The size of group means that there is no strict itinerary - hence more scope for proper adventure and exploration, decisions are made as a group and the emphasis is, apparently, on fun!
I would be travelling in a fully equipt mini-bus with my group and a tour guide, sleeping in tents, and occasionally hotels along the way. Sounds good.

There is one that I really fancy, called 'The Atlantic Dream', which departs from either Miami or New York and covers Orlando, Panama City, New Orleans, Mississippi, Tenessee and Washington DC. It costs £605 for 14 days and I would be required to pay an extra $35 per week to the food kitty and $35 per night when we stay in a hotel in New Orleans, sneaky bits that I read in the small print!
The cheaper one that I might also do is called 'The Eastern Highlights' and only lasts 7 days, at a cost of £305 + food kitty and 1 night in Boston $35 again. It would cover Washington DC, 'Bear Country', Niagara Falls, The Berkshire Mountains, Boston and New York (departing and finishing there).

It's gonna cost me about £1500 altogether to do any of these options, as I've already payed out £350 to Camp Americe, which I will get back - but I'll have to get dooyooing - Fast! in order to get my pennies together.

Anyway, I'll keep you posted. Wish me luck!

*************UPDATE**********************

I'm booked on to the 'Atlantic Dream'trip!
So I'm really excited at the prospect of a 'Big Brother' type experience with people from all over the world - should be good. Trek review coming up I think!
I'll be writing about all the destinations while I'm there - so don't forget about me!

Bing Bong Hello!!!! Catskill Mountains and Jesus? Ummm.....Maybe you would get along better with Christianity in the appalachian Mountians or Adirondacks.
