Where is your summer next holiday going to be?

Advantages: It'll be great, music, clubboing

Disadvantages: We haven't booked it yet

After much deliberation I thought I would inform you lucky(?) people about my holiday plans or this year. I'm sure you'll all find them absolutely fascinating, just as the rest of my ops are, you know you love it.

This year I'm planning to go to Ibiza with my girlfriend. I have wanted to go to the white isle since I first started getting into house music when I was about 16. The idea of everyone being there for the clubbing and the music and the hedonistic lifestyle appealed to me, and so, with this in mind I booked my first holiday to 'biza in 1999. I was due to go with 5 of my mates and have a wicked A-level results fuelled holiday. We had booked it and even paid for it, when, two weeks before we were meant to fly the holiday company (Thomas Cook), phoned to inform us that the hotel that we were meant to be staying in had not actually been completed and therefore the holiday was off. They didn't even have any replacements for us due to the lack of notice and to cut a long story short, did we go on holiday? Did we bol...

So, 2, years after this experience that left me needing hospital treatment and lifelong psychiatric help (well, nearly), we have decided that the only thing for it is to jet off to the clubbing capital of the world for a week. We've chosen to only stay for a week due to our rather minimal funds, what with being students and all, but we still reckon this will leave us eating cold value beans for the rest of the year. Anyway, we have selected the first two weeks in September as our projected period for three main reasons, 1. It gives us the rest of the summer to earn some money.
2. It'll be cheaper than high season, and not as crowded.
3. All the closing parties will be on in the clubs.
'What?' I hear you cry, 'but that is less than a month away! And you still haven't booked? You fool.' Well, in reply to this rather scathing attack that will have me sobbing into my pillow
for many nights to come, I say that we are going to book it as late as possible and get a bargain (hopefully). Last year we travelled to Lanzarote, only booking it a couple of days before we departed and managed to save nearly £400 off the brochure price, not bad eh? So, this is what we are hoping to do again. We are currently scouring the teletext pages for the cheapest deals, and hope to pick up a weeks self catering for under £200, which we think that we'll easily do, oh how you'll laugh when it all goes wrong...

We are hoping to stay on the Playa d'En Bossa resort on the island. This is predominantly a family resort and so we hope to miss some of the club 18-30 beer boys, oh those crazy kids. Also some of my mates stayed there last year and found the whole atmosphere far better than the San Antonio vibe. The bar Bora Bora is also located here, with DJ Gee's legendary 12-hour sets, and it is also close to Space, apparently the best club in the world. If we cannot find any accommodation in this part of the island we may be forced to San An, though this may be better in the long run as it is home to more of the clubs and the famous 'sunset strip', which we'd be mad to miss. Basically, I don't really care where I stay as long as we go.

When we are actually there I hope to squeeze in as much clubbing, dancing and generally having a good time as possible. Some of the things that I'm most looking forward to (just in case you were wondering, well, you've got this far) are:
Going to Manumission, just for the experience. The club where it's held has a capacity of 9000, it has trees growing in it and the DJ is suspended over a swimming pool, I think it has to be seen to be believed.
Space, reputedly the best club in the world, the morning carry on's from Manumission are legendary and as Sasha is the resident it's all good.
The sunset from Cafe del Mar. Ibiza has some of the best sunsets in
the world and I just can't wait, no really, to experience them for myself, hopefully from the world famous Cafe del Mar, or anywhere along the sunset strip really. Apart from one of Dangerous Dave's, or Judge Tools' warm up parties, no, I would like to have a good holiday.
Seeing some of the worlds best on the wheels of steel. Hopefully these may include: Sasha, Digweed, Carl Cox, Dave Seaman, John 'oo Flemming and various other jockey boys that I won't go into, as I'm sure you're eyes are heavy by now.

So, overall I'm looking for the holiday of a lifetime. I'm already reading everything that I can about the place, all the Mixmag supplements etc.. And watching everything on TV, yes the coverage must be well good on Rapture, or maybe not. Well, I'm going with the right company, so that won't be a problem, the clubs are bound to be great, and judging from the radio shows, the music is wicked, so what can go wrong? Hopefully nothing. BUT, I won't be forgetting the last time I tried to go in a hurry, so I'm not taking anything for granted until I've actually done it, but, I'll tell you what, I just can't wait.

Great opinion. My proposed 2-week Ibiza trip fell through earlier this year, which was a bit gutting, but I'm going next year, without doubt.

Space et al are clubs that simply must be experienced, hope you have a great time.

One pointer though - whilst you're there, look out for my mate - he'll be the loudest guy on the island - and probably with dyed blue hair 'n all. ;o)

Tom.
