Artificial intelligence or AI as its more commonly known has been a thing of mystery and scientist dreams. However can something really think for itself? Well to draw a conclusion we can use a few robots that have been made and released. The first is Sony's Aibo, a small robotic dog which walked around by itself and had autonomous modes - it did what it wanted when it wanted. But whilst many believed Aibo was making its own decisions it was in fact answering simple yes and no answers to questions. Aibo had a sensor to allow it to stop walking forward if an obstruction was in the way how? Step 1 - Well the sensor picks up there is the ... Read the complete review

Okay, it's my first review and I will say it once. English is not my native language. That's no excuse for writing a bad review, even your first, but if my language is not quite like yours, that's the reason. You might have to tune your ear a little. Before we can make an estimation about the possibility of artificial intelligence we should look at what a computer actually does, because if there is intelligence in the whole, it should exist also in the parts. In a leaf we can see the tree - can't we? - shaped like a pear, with the trunk here, and the branches here, spreading out and getting thinner towards the edges. The tiny child looks like its mother. We ... Read the complete review

My wife's a bit upset with me. She thinks I've got another woman. Actually, she knows I've got another woman because I sit her in a special cradle on the dashboard of my car. My new woman is very demanding. If I don't do as I'm told, she insists I follow her commands in an ever more shrill fashion. But she can be submissive. If I persist in my misbehaviour, she just thinks awhile, then suggests something else that fits in better with my plans. She's really the perfect companion. Fortunately for my beloved spouse, it's unlikely my relationship with this new woman will go much further than I've already described. As you've ... Read the complete review

Wouldn't it be absolutely superb if computers were intelligent and capable of independant thought albeit artificial thought. But then if you think about it, how actually do you think ? Your brain sends electrical impulses from one part of your brain to another. When you learn new information a neural pathway is burned into your brain at the atomic level, creating memories that you are able to draw from to make future decisions. Apart from the fact that a computer has a motherboard instead of a brain and the pathways are burned onto disks rather than on to grey matter, whats the difference? Once we perfect the first computer capable of ... Read the complete review

In order to discuss the possibility of artificial intelligence, we have to know what intelligence is. Largely AI is taken to mean not merely the capacity to reason (which arguably computers already have) but the ability to perform more human functions, and above all, the posession of consciousness. Intelligence. What is it? There is no one psychological school of thought on this subject. IQs may be relaible and measurable, but what do they actually measure? If intelligence is based on the accumutlation of facts, easy eough to give this characteristic to a machine. However, it is our ability to apply information to new situations, to draw parrallels, and to ... Read the complete review
