Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Too many to list.
Both buildings in the World Trade Centre have been demolished. Hit by two hijacked planes, the buildings evcentually collapsed. God only knows how many dead and injured - including the passengers on the hijacked planes. The Pentagon has also been hit, and there are reports of other bombings and plane crashes across the States. Latest reports suggest that there is another hijacked plane on the way to Washington. This is the worst ever case of mass terrorism in a Western country - and you can bet your life that the response is going to be to bomb someone. Will it be Gadaffi, Saddam or somebody else? I'm sure a suitable target can be found, even if we don't have any convincing evidence. And what do we have in the way of secondary headlines? 'Shares plummet', 'stocks dive' - aside from the unfortunate phrasing, is this really what's important. Thousands dead, more violence on the way and all that some people care about is offloading their stocks and shares and making some cash out of the chaos. Capitalism, doncha just love it?

- 15/02/02 Oops typing error. The second sentence was supposed to read "did not support the Gulf War".

- 15/02/02 I'm not sure that Al Queda are exclusivly Sunni, and I'm pretty sure that they, as an organisation supported the gulf war. Its generally believed that Bin Ladens hatred of the U.S is manly because of the presence of U.S forces in his homeland of Saudi Arabia which started during the gulf war.
In any case, the Axis of evil speech wasn't restricted to Al Queada. It was aimed at the funders or terrorism and Iraq, Iran and Korea most certainly fall into that definition.
Read ing between the lines however I dont think that there is any remote chance of military action against Iran or North Korea. My reading is that it is just putting them on notice to stop funding terror.
People often make this point about US foreign policy being behind things. How can starting a war with Iran help U.S foreign policy? That makes no sense at all.
As for Enron, the net is full of loopy opinions, and conspiracy theories (just look at what Aang finds for his DooYoo ops!)without a shred of evidence.
Just give me a taste of the links between the two and what the evidence is, and I will happily debate it with you. |

- 15/02/02 Markw-d: Al Qaeda are Sunni moslems, Iran is a Shiite state. The two are bitter enemies, and have been for a long time. The Taliban and Iran were also enemies. That's why Iran supported the initial campaign against the Taliban and Al Qaeda. How come all of a sudden they are part of an "axis of evil"? Because it suits American foreign policy. It's the same with Iraq. Al Qaeda supported the Guld War because Iraq ia secular Arab state - Islamic fundamentalists hate that. They too are now part of the axis of evil because it suits US foreign policy.
As for Enron and Afghanistan, do a web search and see what you come up with. The links are there alright. |
