Yesterday the world was stunned by the terrible news from America. New York, Washington and Philidelphia were targeted by unknown terrorists of the most cowardly kind. They took innocent men, women and children travelling on routine flights across the United States and sent them, along with the occupants of vast buildings, to their deaths. We watched events unfold in horror. It was like a scene from a movie. The smoke and dust as the twin towers collapsed reminded me of the scene from Independence Day after the Empire State Building was blasted into oblivion. No-one knew what to say. Words don't exist to verbalise the horrors we were witnessing - from the comfort of our armchairs we saw people throwing themselves from the top of the towers to certain death below - to avoid what? Certain death within. I have been into the AOL chat rooms to try to talk about my feelings, only I find so many morons in there it is impossible to find a sensible line of communication. Everyone is intent on revenge - there was talk of making bombs - nuke 'em, they shouted. For God's sake, how is that going to end it? It will be the end for all of us if we don't stop NOW! Everyone is saying 'How can God let something like this happen?' I say, How can MAN let this happen? All of our problems are of our own making. Because of our greed and our obsession with religion we have made the world what it is. Through the ages wars have been fought in the name of religion. But God has nothing to do with religion. He has been put, by man, into their religions, but He does not approve of any one religion. He must despair of man's lunacy. So what can we do? We have made this mess, how do we clear it up? I really don't think we can. I honestly think it is too late. The men with the power have their fingers on the destruct button as we speak. They will be willing to send millions of 'ordinary' people t
o meet their maker in the distorted belief that it will make a better world for those who are left. They are wrong. War and destruction is wrong - it can never be right. We have been given the gift of life on what could be a beautiful planet, so what are we doing? Destroying it, polluting it and draining it of all it's resources. Mankind needs to wake up - stop blaming - and start working for peace - before it's too late. God bless all the souls who have gone to a better place. And God help those of us left behind.
