I don't know why I'm really writing this, I suppose it's because I've read so many other opinions and just wanted to put another perspective into the mix. A few of you might know that I'm married to an American serviceman, we're stationed here in Mildenhall, Suffolk. We all know what happened, terrorists caused absolute havoc in New York and Washington. The death toll is supposedly going to exceed 10,000 and God knows how many have been injured. The TV is constantly giving updates and 'experts' give their opinions on what effect this atrocity will have on the world. Has anybody stopped and thought about all the Americans that are stationed here in England? Do you have any idea what effect this is having on our kids? I know, and I'm going to tell you to the best of my ability. My husband worked 24 hours straight yesterday because the base was locked down and nobody was allowed to leave. He looked completely washed out today, the waiting and not knowing what happens next is awful. The possibility of war is one thing that no-one wants to accept, surely there has to be a better way. My son doesn't get it! School has been cancelled until further notice because security is so tight that they can't take the risk. He doesn't believe it's really happening and asked "Why didn't they go somewhere else?" Innocence. I read that someone thinks United States deserved this - how? If someone can give me a legitimate answer and reason for this belief then I might be able to accept this view. I don't believe anyone deserves this and I'm sure if it had been Big Ben that had collapsed then I'm sure they wouldn't be thinking this way. The majority of opinions I've read have been wonderful and full of sadness for the American people - thank you, on their behalf. That's all I wanted to say, I'm sorry that it's not re
ally a very detailed account of anything thats happened, I just wanted to air how I feel.

- 13/12/01 I am sorry for all of it. I am an American and find the whole thing shocking and frightening. Our lives have been changed forever by this and I think the whole world has too. Peace, Kimber |

- 31/10/01 As silly as this may look, I am of the believe you have expressed yourself very well, even though short as you may say. What happens to the future of all mankind rests upon the next steps taken, I believe. Good read. |

- 29/09/01 Hey, keep the chin up, I haven't read anything by anyone who doesn't seem not to like or feel for our US cousins (Well, except for maybe cammij, and he's American himself). Have things settled down any for you and your family yet? Hope so.
Like LOOKAROUNDCAFE, I'm pretty convinced US foriegn policy hasn't helped, and Americans struggle to comprehend this as they are far more insular than Europeans - if the press is to be believed (Har har) - I read that only 10% of US citizens are in possession of a passport, which much tilt their collective worldview. I don't suppose this incident will have helped, as many people will be afraid to fly.
Anyhow, take care, and lets hope Dubya keeps his cool head on. Cheers, Daisybelle x
