Disadvantages: huge loss of life, hated by many, petty

The recent terrorist attacks (along with most others) are controversial matters. At this point you may be say “There’s nothing controversial: It’s pure evil.” But there is another side to the story.

The Americans believe they are fighting for ‘Freedom and Democracy’. This involves a lot of hypocrisy though. In fact, just the idea of freedom is hippocratic as having full freedom limits the freedom of others. If murder was legalised this would make more freedom for killers but less for their victims. This means a ‘free state’ actually has limits and rules other it would be anarchy. Thousands died in this ‘atrocity’ and it doesn’t surprise me that the Americans want ‘revenge’. But the terrorist act can be thought of as revenge.

For a long time now, the U.S has being bombing and making trouble in the Middle East. This is all in the name of ‘Freedom and Democracy’. The main example of this is Palestine and Israel. The U.S openly supports Israel in this feud and this brings us back to our old buddy, revenge. The Palestinians clearly wouldn’t like the U.S. Terrorism and Arabs are usually associated together in the west.

Most ‘terrorist acts’ are done by Arabs, fighting for their cause and their religion. Religion has been a major offender in past times with wars, crusades and, more recently, fighting in Northern Island. This could be classed as a civil war, as it is being fought by people of the same nation, and religion. The fighting is all based around people thinking their version of Christianity is right. Most religions claim to believe in peace and forgiveness but still these people are willing to fight, and die for theirs.

In their homelands, these ‘Suicide Bombers’ are thought of as heroes, and martyrs. But ‘Uncle Sam’ thinks they are evil and should all die. This makes ‘Uncle
Sam’ just as bad as the ‘Evil Terrorists’. It is all really just petty and stupid. Both the U.S and the U.K governments are now planning for war and defence against chemical gas attacks.

I think the world would be a much better place if everyone put down their weapons, picked up their religious texts and actually considered listening to the religions that they claim to be faithful to.

OK. It's a point of view.
But I think evil is evil no matter what wrapping it comes in.
This guy bin laden is the devil's spawn, and he must be hunted down and brought to justice.
End of story. (IMHO)

Good op - a very valid point. I'm not religious, but i know that we are being very self-righteous in thinking that our way is right..
