Advantages: Different vantage point for a while.

Disadvantages: Evidence does indicate over use isn't so good.

I worked in a nursery where we had a couple of baby walkers. I was never keen on them as some of the staff tended to plonk the kids in them and leave them. The local Pre 5 officer told us after spotting them not to use them as they can affect normal development.

Over use of walkers can slow development and encourage bad posture. Most of us have enough commen sense to limit the time the child is in it and to ensure that they are in a good position.

One reason children love them is that it gives them a good view of whats going on. Alternatives to this could be putting them in their highchair for a while with some suitable toys (the ones that stick on are good). This is a good way to keep an eye on them when in the kitchen too.

Just be wary of leaving them in it just because they are happy and watch how they are sitting and standing in it.
