Well, I just wanted to say about Abbey. I had an appointment today to open an account only to be told it had been cancelled. They hadn't bothered contacting me (despite having my contact details which were correct) they apologised. I waited there for 20 mins and they never bothered to tell me!

Banks exposed. Two things that bother me. Why do banks take 3-7 days to clear cheques. Someone gave me a cheque once, both accounts were held in the same branch of a bank. They still took three days to clear it. I don't understand this. Call America and you will get instant reply. Banks take days to clear a cheque which is from same branch. ...

Introduction --------------- Is it me or are the banks in general getting more sneaky. I have not had many problems myself regarding my own banking compared to the sad stories of people who have lost businesses and homes. The Banks approach is the opposite to what it should be, especially regards to customer service. My experience ...

Not only do they make obscene amounts of profit but the standard of customer service is appalling. I have been with Abbey National for a few years now and I also have an account with First Direct. The First Direct one is really good however I have always kept an account with Abbey to pay some bills and also because my savings are with ...

I WANT LLOYDS BACK Sit back relax, close your eye's, bring into your mind eye that Black Stallion galloping the sun baked beach, mane flying sinews, muscles strong, superior and capable. Yes folks that summed up my bank. From when I joined them in the 80's I was happy, if there was a problem with my account I would ...

“Smart banking is the essence of the hour…” Our life has become so fast and mechanical that we are bound to go by the myth that we need all at the blink of the eye. I agree with this absolutely but there are certain things in life, which we need to be very careful about, especially when it comes to money management. ...

Is it only me or are we all being bombarded with literature by banks and building societies offering all manner of extra services and products? I am absolutely sick to the back teeth of offer after offer of loans, credit cards, bonds and insurance coming pouring through my letter box. I don't think that I am that unusual in my ...

On 24 September 1999 our son (then 18 years' old) opened a Current Account, just before starting his first year as an undergraduate at the University of Edinburgh. He chose to open an account with the Bank of Scotland partly because of the convenient location of the Branch at the University (for paying in cheques, etc.), but also ...

I have had an account with the Halifax for almost 4 years now and I often wonder why I still use it. It is out of lazyness, I suppose, for one thing it is easier changing a boyfriend or a job than a bank , then I like the facility they have to pay cash deposit at their cashpoints out of banking hours. On the bad side, I had an experience ...

It is interesting how a developed country such as United Kingdom has refused to master the art of customer service and satisfaction. Or maybe they do understand the customer service but years of economic success has made them complacent. Else, how do you explain how history eulogised the English gentility and high level of customer service. ...

I have bad a very major mistake during my student years, I joined the Royal Bank of Scotland. I joined in 1998 at the time it was painfree and all very simple I got a big overdraft and things were going fine. Then like all students a ran out of money so then they increased my overdraft. This is fine until the start of your next year as ...

Nope. I don’t know how. But the banks have cracked the secret. Or one, in particular, has. Firstly, let me make something clear. I am talking here about business banking, about one bank in particular, and about a personal experience which has cost me my business and my home. So forgive me if a ...

A few years a go, I decided to set up a facility with Halifax telebanking. It seemed a good idea at the time because I could never get to the bank as I was working during the day. Setting up the facility was reasonably hassle free. I began using the facility and found that it was very good. It was quick and easy to access ...

ok - lets get one thing straight - I may be young, but I am not deaf, and I dont make things up. However this is exactly what I was accused of by HSBC, or Midland. I opened up a debit card account with the assurance that I would not be able to draw out, or spend money that was not in my bank account. I went into my local Midland a few times to ...

I would like to begin by pointing out that I have had a Lloyds account since 14/11/1996; opened when I was 14 with the princely sum of £5. In all that time, I’ve mostly been very satisfied. The bank has merged with TSB, offering more cashpoints, introduced internet banking, etc, etc. I’ll save that for another time though (i.e. a ...

Planning to buy a house? Tempted by the wonderful financial products the Woolwich ahs to offer? By all means give in to that temptation, but read my cautionary tale of woe first!!! We (my fiancée and I) are taking the (perhaps ill-advised) triple step of getting married, starting new jobs and moving house all at the same time. ...

I recently decided to move my current account. But I nearly lost my sanity! The history: I originally signed up to Natwest because it had pictures of bunny rabbits and otters on the cheque books. Well, I was only 18. But as a mature, astute 30-something, those woodland creatures didn't compensate for the appallingly low ...

After I lost my NatWest cashcard, I rang th hotline and was assured that new cards and pins would be issued straight away. Sure enough, 6 days later my new card came. But not only that, the bank sent me another, identical card. I rang the helpline straight away, and was told to hold while they checked the details. The assistant ...

My father, who died a couple of weeks ago, had banked with Barclays for most of his life. The day after he died me and my mother went into the local branch to notify them of his death. You would think it would be fairly straightforward, but no. Despite the fact that my father had been dead for less than 48 hours they were what I ...
