Change We Can Believe In. On a hot day in August way back in 1963, a man stood in front of a gathering of people at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. and shared his hope for the future. A dream of a time when there would be no segregation, no discrimination, no distain of colour or creed. A time when his children, their children, could live in a land where they would not be judged by the colour of their skin "but by the content of their character". On the 28th August 1963, Martin Luther King Jnr stood before the world and said the words which have been engraved in the essence of all the years that have passed since: 'I ...  Read the complete review

I pity those who feel hope for the new president - regardless of his colour, he is a politician and has become adept at playing the political game . How can anyone look at his selections for his cabinet and support team and not see the gray ghosts of failed previous administrations ? He is an exciting and dramatic orator who can encourage hope in the hearts of the listening audience but being a president calls for a different set of skills - if articulacy was a necessary skill for a president how could Bush have stained the White House for so long ? Can you not remember the hopes that Blair carried with him into Downing Street and how they promptly travelled out ...  Read the complete review

I have recently written a couple of short articles on the American President elect's new term of office, and the like, but this is my first one on the subject of if there will ever be a black American President. So firstly I have to say that a new black President is still not an out and out certainty. Although America and it's people have moved on in recent years there are still plenty of race issues in America. Looking back over the USA's chequered history there have been more assasinations than any country should ever have. Often when Americans are challenged with change they seem to respond with violence. I remember all to well the death of John Kennedy, ...  Read the complete review

My first thoughts on the recent election in the US was, thank God the yanks have came to their senses, they've finally chosen someone who just might get them out of all the **** they've dug themselves into, or should I say GW has gotten them into. It is indeed an unfortunate state of affairs that the rest of the world uses the USA as a crutch and a guide, it is this following like a sheep that has ended us up in one hell of a predicament. Democracy means that we vote for the candidate that we believe will deliver on the promises they offer during an election, we all know they are going to break some of those promises, and that certain circumstances may stop them from ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Barack Obama - will there ever be a black American president?: Hot topic of USA (337 words)

The Obama victory and the increased seats in both the House and Senate appeared to be taken as a mandate by the Democrat politicians. Not more than two days after Obama has won the election, we already see Speaker Nancy Peloci meeting with the UAW and General Motors, Ford and Chrysler about a huge bailout package. This comes after a $700 billion bailout package previously last month. At the beginning of the year the government was expected to deficit spend $198 billion in 2008. This was met with sharp criticism, as the Fed Chairman told Congress in a Congressional Committee that such large deficit spending year after year was totally unsustainable and ...  Read the complete review
