Advantages: In-form, has played on left before, only option!

Disadvantages: Not his 'natural' position, has flopped in the past.

Nick Barmy should and I think probably will be in England's starting line-up for the Germany game. Not wanting to take anything away from the lad, but he's our only choice!

What about Wise? or Phil Neville pushed up from the back? I hear you ask, and these are options, but not very good ones.

If Wise plays on the left we'll get, no doubt the "110%" commitment that epitomises Dennis' play, but I feel he's too defensive. Can a player that is seen more as an alternative to Ince in the 'holding' role really play as a wide-left player? And if Phil Neville comes up from the back, who replaces him at left-back? Barry? Come on, he's good, but he's a centre-back, I fear for the lad if his baptism for England is at left-back, his confidence could be ruined for ever!

Barmy's made a late run to earn his place in the squad, with impressive performances against Ukraine and Malta and with MacManaman injured he deserves a chance. If he has a stinker we'll all say "I told you so" but then..... if he plays the telling pass that unlocks the German defence for the deciding goal he'll be the new hero..... even if he does play for Everton!
