Premium Review Barnsley F.C.: AFC BARNSLEY (362 words)
by - written on 23/08/04 (Useful, 458 readings)
Rating:

AFC Barnsley were formed in May 2003 after serious reservations began to surface regarding the future of Barnsley FC and whether they would actually survive to see the following season. Some disillusioned fans decided to protect the interests of Barnsley fans by making sure someone would continue to care about what the fans actually said and so set about organising how they would move onward. Forming the side was easy, everything else was the problem! From the start several parties showed an interest and Clint Marcelle, the ex-Barnsley player was about to join as player manager but joined Hucknall Town instead. No matter how disappointing this was, it was to ...  Read the complete review

Barnsley are a side which i dont actually support but a side i show a lot of interest in. They have a number of very interesting characters in their ranks and i back them to make the Premier League this season through the play offs especially if they can make the defence a bit more watertight! Theyve got big 'Arry' Bassett in charge and if anyones gonna take em up its gonna be him. Hes a top manager and deserves to be in the Premiership and i hope hes gonna get there with Barnsley. He very much takes his central squad wherever he goes with him and has brought a number of players upto Barnsley from his former club Nottingham Forest like Steve Chettle, Neil ...  Read the complete review

Barnsley F.C.: Can do a lot better! (162 words)

Barnsley are not the sort of side that you'd associate with Premiership playing potential and yet they were only recently in the top flight, but have since been relegated a few years back and now will try and get back up the table for the playoffs. It's been a long, hard, tiring season for the avid Barnsley supporter - they haven't achieved that much, and seem to be hanging around mid table, but I predict a sudden gust of good from will blow the way of the Barnsley and we could see them in the playoffs and in the Premiership once more! Seeing as Barnsley were only in the premiership a few seasons ago, you would expect them to be up there challenging ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Can Bassett pick a team? (128 words)

What the hell has Bassett bought or in this case loaned another left back for? He has got too many in the first place and then goes out and spends more wasteful money on another. I mean, he's got Barnard, Corbo, Brown, Barker, Austin, Woan and now he getting yet another; Janni Salli. He obviously looks good from playing for Finland the other day against England, and I hope he is but do we need another with Barnard and Corbo playing well together up that left wing? Why doesn't he go out and buy a decent midfielder to replace Craig Hignett instead of try to replace him with cheap players like Ward? He played four strikers against Tranmere Rovers in mid-week. ...  Read the complete review

Barnsley F.C.: Can they react in the right way? (180 words)
by - written on 02/10/00
Rating:

The options for Barnsley are to react in one of two ways. They can follow the lead of the previous season's losing play-off finalists Bolton and have a transitional campaign, ending in further play-off agony. Or they can follow the 1998 losing side's lead. That side was Sunderland, who garnered a record number of points in the next season. Unfortunately, the records show that Sunderland kept hold of their best players. Barnsley have lost Craig Hignett and loan defender John Curtis, both to divisional rivals Blackburn. Nicky Eaden has also gone, though I hear that Birmingham's gain is not entirely Barnsley's loss. The creativity of Hignett is the ...  Read the complete review
