Advantages: One of the best and proved it by beating Naz
Disadvantages: Lost an epic fight with Erik Morales
Marco Antonio Barrera. One of the big names in the Super Bantamweight division. I've followed Naseem Hamed's career closely since he first appeared on the pro-boxing scene and as soon as he hit the big time, people said their were certain fighters he would have to beat to prove himself. One of the names mentioned was Marco Antonio Barrera. I'd never seen him fight and knew nothing about him. I still can't say I know much about him personally, but I have seen him fight and I believe that he could be the man to beat Naz. I've seen him fight once and it was the greatest fight I've ever seen. It was shown, live on Sky Sports, at about 3 in the morning from Las Vegas. There was little hype and little advertising to promote this clash between too of the finest pound for pound fighters in the world. Experts said that the winner would be a step closer to being considered as among the best in the world. Barrera lost this particular fight, though not by much. He went twelve heroic rounds against a man that I believe will become one of the greatest in history, Eric Morales. For 12 rounds, Barrera and Morales exchanged punches, each showing the world exactly what he could dish out and take in return. Neither man gave in, neither looked like losing and it could have gone either way. The power and skill displayed by both men was like nothing I'd ever seen before. Barrera showwed himself to be worthy of his reputation. He fought like a champion and he looked quite capable of beating Naz, Morales or anyone else. I would certainly place him among the great Super Bantamweights and it is a shame that more people don't know about him. He is a wonderful boxer, with the power and skill to match anyone out there, including Morales and Hamed. If Hamed wants to prove himself to be the best he must fight and beat both Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera. UPDATE 18/4/01 Told you he was the business. Although I haven'
;t seen his fight with Hamed (yet), from what I hear he totally outclassed Hamed. The fact that Barrera beat Hamed quite comfortably adds some weight to my belief that he could be one of the best fighters around at the moment.
