Advantages: great game, fast moving, involves everyone
Disadvantages: none
Basketball, invented by a frustrated PE teacher in Springfield, Massachusetts, is a fast, highly skilled game. It is similar to netball, but the differences make it as far apart as tennis and ping pong. The object of the game is to score by getting the ball through a hoop 10 feet off the ground. If you want to move with the ball, you must bounce it. If you've never tried to run and dodge while bouncing a basketball you will not have an appreciation for how difficult it really is. Shots at the basket are contested, so you must develop a jump and a shot that will go off accurately and not get blocked by the large person in front of you. You can dribble (bounce the ball) when you get it, but you can only use one hand at a time. You may not take more than a step without bouncing the ball unless you are in the act of shooting a lay-up, in which case you get one extra step. If you stop, one foot must remain anchored at all times. You cannot start dribbling again unless you give up and regain possession. You cannot go over the halfway line and back again. You must get the ball into the front court within ten seconds. In some leagues you have a certain amount of time in which you may shoot or you turn the ball over. Teams are five against five. If you get five fouls (in the NBA 6) you are out of the game. A far shot is worth 3 points (a 3-pointer), a regular shot from the field is 2 points, and a foul shot is one point. Watch a few games, and it'll all seem easy. Have Fun!

- 20/11/01 Pretty good opinion though I think you should have included some things like 3 second violations, what a foul is and the difference between technical, flagrant, and personal fouls. I think you did a good job explaining some of the fundamentals though:) Great op! |
