 ... to the airport only to discover my "unique" piece in most of the gift shops, priced at £4.00. What made it worse was when I got home my mother described my overpriced piece of tat as horrendous. On this dreary cold November day I thought this was a great review to write to remind me of warmer more sunny times...... My best and worst holiday souvenirs. It's probably best to start off with my worst souvenirs.... As when I am on holiday I only ever seem to buy tat. But a common theme appears to be the item I thought of as being "great" and "worth spending more on have been some of the worst I have bought. The most recent purchase was a necklace when visiting Tanzania. I wanted to buy some jewellery and something with an African twist that was "wearable" back home. I brought back a circular flat bread basket thingy from Israel 30-odd years ago which is adorning the walls of my work room. It still looks good after all that time. As it cost me 50p it's working out at under 2p a year so that cant be bad! I have a spectacular conch shell which I brought back from Morocco. That cost me nothing, except that I ended up drunk when I got talking about it to two lunatic Australians, who were drinking their way round the world. (They might have got to Tunisia by now because that was about 6 years ago.)
