Bird watching

No I am not a fanatical birdwatcher dashing here and there to see a rare bird.
I like to see birds but due to a visual impairment find it difficult to identify birds at a distance.
I cannot use binoculars easily, as only one eyepiece matches up with the position of my eye. I can use a telescope, but to be honest I am not so desperately keen as to go and sit in a hide for hours watching birds.
I do know people who bird watch like this and will accompany them sometimes on a short expedition.
Have been to Loch Garten in Scotland and watched the Osprey I have seen the red kites flying not too far away from where I live.
I like to see birds, can recognise a reasonable number of species.

Where I do my bird watching is in the garden. We feed the birds in a position where they can be seen from the house either from the kitchen window, or from the conservatory. In fact I can see the feeding area from the computer if I turn my chair around and look out of the french windows and through the conservatory windows to the garden.
I also have a good view across the Chiltern hills from the back bedroom (my daughters) she left home ages ago still has her teddies and dolls in it pictures of her favourite pop stars on the wall) anyway in this bedroom we keep a pair of binoculars and my husband will often go there to scan the skies for any interesting birds
I have two bird feeders one full of nuts and one with seeds I/ or my husband also scatter food on the floor for the birds that feed on the floor.
A bird feeder needs to be in a position where the cat cannot easily get to catch the birds as they feed.
Birds also need water. I do not put any by my feeder as I have a pond in the garden that birds can visit .I break the ice on the pond if it is frozen.

It brightens up my day to watch the birds in the garden We have a chirpy little Robin bobb ,bob, bobbing about he is busy collecting moss for his nest to
day .I have seen him collecting beakfuls of grasses in his beak and I watch him. His nest is in the ivy on the dividing wall between my nieghbour and one of that pair of robins only has 1 leg so I guess he is hopp hopp hopping not bobb bobb bobb bobbing around the garden.

We also have a nest box for blue tits . They have been popping in and out with nesting materials.
Looking out of the window now I see greedy starling pecking away at the bread I just put out A few sparrows are also investigating. A watchful wood pigeon flies down to seize a morsel of food this wood pigeon spends a lot of time eating the ivy berries on the dividing wall.
There is a black bird on the lawn I think they are nesting near.
We also have a dunnock nesting in the pyracantha at the bottom of the garden.

Other birds that visit my garden Greenfinch, blackcap, wren, redwing, house sparrow,
A stonechat visited once as did a black redstart and once a heron visited our pond
Others do visit but I cannot remember their names. I am not terribly good at identifying birds, had to ask husband to remind me of a few, but I enjoy having birds to watch in the garden. Thanks for reading

Whilst the subject is of no interest to me whatsoever, I can appreciate that it would be useful if it was. You are a good writer and i'm sure your opinions are all informative and very well written - I want to read your reviews - I just can't find any that interest me. Sorry.

I love spending an hour or two watching all of my garden birds going about their business. I am not a fanatic but it does take my mind of other things. Shall I call it therapy LOL...Good op

Good op. I'm a bird fan but not a real enthusiast. Cheers :-)
