Jesper Blomqvist

All I can remember of this man is a shadow of a man playing on the left side of midfield. In fact, when I saw his picture, I didn't recognize who it was and wouldn't have known if it hadn't had been in the actual Blomqvist section! Jesper last played a game a long, long time ago. Since then, he has ben plagued with practically every injury imaginable, and has had to undergo several operations on certain parts of his leg. I think that this is a great shame because this player could have made a good impact upon the Premier League had he remained fit. If he hadn't been injured for the 20 months or so he has been, Jesper would no doubt be pushing Giggs for a place in the team. It's sad looking back because I can't remember any particular good performances from him, of which there were many. He shone right from the beginning when we played his team IFK Göteborg in the Champions League. He scored one, assisted one and won them a penalty in their 3-1 victory. Jesper Blomqvist has had a terrible time at Manchester United. He joined them in the hope of winning many championships and gaining vast experience. Before he joined he was a well known name in the world of football and it is said to say that today he he hardly mentioned. Jesper was signed to play on the left wing which he had done for his previous clubs. It was going to be hard for him to keep Ryan Giggs out of the squad but in his first season he did pretty well. Just a couple of years ago in 1998, Jesper Blomqvist was on top of the world- he had just helped Man Utd to the European Cup, Premiership and FA Cup treble. Since then nothing has gone right for him. He has had a catalogue of injuries, and when he is fit, there is no way past Ryan Giggs unfortunately. With Giggs always picking up niggling injuries, he can certainly be a an asset to United, but now they have gone and bought Quinton Fortune to make life even more difficult. When Jesper Blomqvist signed for Manchester United he was a great player with the potential to become a world beater. He was quick, had great control when on the ball and was able to take it round players like they weren't there. He failed to find his feet straight away, maybe he was scared by the size of the club and the greatness of the players that he was playing with and that had played there before him I don't know. I think he was just starting to get better when he got this injury that is keeping him out now.
