The advent of Blu-Ray has really forced high definition into the mainstream household and until you have seen it at its full potential you are missing something very special. Blu-Ray is the next generation of optical media set to replace the CD and DVD formats. The same size of a traditional disc they improve the storage capacity from 4.7gb to a sizeable 25gb, or 50gb on dual layer discs. This big increase in capacity enables huge amounts of media and data to be written to a single disc. With the introduction of the Playstation 3 marked the beginning of progression for the Blu-ray. The standard entry-level Blu-ray players are now cheaper than £200. There are now recordable Blu-ray drives, which can store way more than your DVDs. Currently these are high in price, but once they drop, including the price of blank Blu-ray discs it's just a matter of time before DVDs become obsolete. Rental sites such as Lovefilm and Blockbuster stock a high volume of Blu-ray movies already, so it is quite clear that Blu-ray mean business.
