Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Terrorism, USA arrogance, World war...?
I don't often follow public opinion but in this case, I have to agree with the anti-war majority in this country. The biggie for me is the justifications which have been put forward by George W. for this war. To begin with it was "Iraq is harbouring terrorists!" Ok, maybe that's a reason, especially in light of the horrific events of 9/11. Now, in light of the lack of evidence to support this, it seems that the excuse, sorry, reason is "weapons of mass destruction". (Do you know, I hate that phrase, it's been banded about so much by politicians, it's lost it's ability to make me feel anything.) Weapons inspectors looked failed to find anything. So far the invasion has failed to find anything apart from gas masks. My big question is, what if Iraq is telling the truth? What if there are no chemical, biological or nuclear weapons? How can you prove something isn't there without it being a very lengthy inspection process? (Please tell me if I'm being naive here won't you!) The final reason that Tony Bush (sorry, Blair) gave for invading Iraq was its treatment of their people. Now we know that's been the case for 12 years. Why act on it now and why just in Iraq? You could find a mutitude of human rights abuses in the rest of Asia, the developed world and even the great world-wide policemen, the United States of America. I'm not sure if any of you noticed but last week, buried among pages of Iraq coverage, I noticed a small story indicating that some of the prisoners at Camp X-ray had been released because they were innocent after all. These people were held without charge, tortured and subjected to horrendous abuse at the hands of the USA. Now, tell me this, who will police the self appointed world's policemen? That's what I truely find frightening about the whole conflict.

MGirl - 18/02/05 I hate to be right about it but I think we all know that the torture by the US and UK troops was (and maybe still is) very real. It's tough to look at the numbers of people who may have died. Had that been the reason given for the war then maybe it was worth it but how many people are still dying now at the hands of "insurgents" (can anyone tell me what that word actually means) or allied troops?
