Newest Review: ... who are operating on you, so that they can answer any questions that you have before the operation. A date was scheduled and I turned up at the hospital. Stayed overnight and got wheeled down to surgery in the morning. I tried to stay awake as long as I could once they'd drugged me but couldn't manage it. I then woke up back in a bed on the ward after 12 hours in surgery. The first few hours after my operation were very woozy. My parents and sister were there when I rang my boyfriend. I had a whole ten minute conversation with him and don't remember any of it! I wasn't in any pain, due to the morphine but I kept slipping in and out of c... more

Following on from my 'review' about the importance of checking for any signs of breast cancer, this is a 'review' about what happens when you're diagnosed with it. It could be useful for people who have been recently diagnosed or who have friends or family who are in that situation. For the picture, I found a mass (I wouldn't call it a lump, it was more of a thickening) in my right breast three years ago when I was 31, went to the doctor who in turn sent me to the hospital. On my first visit, I met with an oncologist (cancer specialist) who basically laughed at me and said, 'I'll be very surprised if you have breast cancer!' But he sent me for a ... I am writing this as a 29 year old female who has so far (touch wood) been fortunate enough not to be diagnosed with breast cancer but around 5 years ago my world fell apart when my mom was diagnosed and I wanted to share my experiences of this very testing time with you all to help raise awareness. The first thing I want to touch on is that obviously there is a lot of press nowadays advising women to check their breasts regularly for 'lumps'. My Mom didnt have a lump it was more of a 'dip' in the breast though she was luckily astute enough to visit the doctors anyway. After further tests at our local hospital she was given the devastating news that it was in ... Read the complete review

Now just to be clear from the start this review is about finding a breast lump that turned out NOT to be maligment but explains what happens once you find a lump. I hope it can reassure anyone who has found a lump that it's not usually cancer and explain the procedure of testing. I found a lump a couple of years ago, whilst in the bath, situated high on the breast in between my actual breast and armpit. I know now this is a very common area to find cancerous lumps and that's why there's all the speculation about anti-perspirants contributing to breast cancer. At first I ignored it. Not for long, just long enough for it to go if it was hormone ... Read the complete review

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women in the UK, and it's on the increase. At present, about one woman in nine can expect to suffer breast cancer at some point during her life. If current trends continue that proportion is likely to grow in the future. All women are at risk of this horrible disease and need to be aware of it. That's the bad news. The good news is that the rates for cure and long-term survival among breast cancer victims have improved dramatically in recent years, so much so that, even as the number of women developing breast cancer has grown, the number actually dying from it has fallen. If detected early, breast cancer ... Read the complete review

I am writing a few years late on the discussion but wanted to add that as a young woman I did not know how to feel for lumps I have never had a mammogram or biopsy pertaining to my breasts. I am always saying knowledge and education is power but have no experience in this department. I have had three children and have come to realise that my breasts don't feel the same anymore. Your review has prompted me to take action. Thank you for sharing such a personal opinion on this matter, life is made easier by sharing experiences. My mom had a lot of pain in her breasts last year and went for the tests they came back clear for cancer but they discovered her breasts ... Read the complete review
