Bullying at work is an absolute no-no, however, we all know it happens, and is usually perpertrated by those who never grew out of it after school or have an inferiority complex. Bullying is for those who cannot live a life for themselves, who need others to feel bad to make themselves feel better.

Low self esteem and a lack of confidence is behind it, otherwise why would they need to bully. It is simply abuse in a form which we sit back and accept, we are too afraid to stand up and say no, no to abuse.

I never thought I would be one to be bullied and I stood up when I thought it counted, guess what I then got reprimanded by the manager, one up to the bully. I listened as she berated a friend of mine, listened as she stood there and said "when she's dressed like that she deserves to be raped" about a colleague. I was a new employee then and she was deputy manager, what do you do? She pushed and pushed and pushed until she backed me into a corner and I stood up for myself and what I was doing, she had me taken into the office "I will not be told what to do by junior staff" "No-one tells me what to do" and of course what do you do? Nothing, nothing because it is easier to keep the peace than deal with the hassle.

I reported her, and nothing happened, I was expected to apologise and then it be over, in the end I left, and now work where I don't have to be close to people for most of my day and am pretty much my own boss most of the day.

I worked with a very small team in a very close environment. where people knew each other and some had become too close and involved with each other, too supportive and then closed ranks. There was little in road into changing it, and little desire to rock the boat. I think in smaller work places this is inevitable, however, larger offices I have worked it have dealt with it differently.
