My son has had problems settling into school all his life but none so bad as the last 12 months.

He is almost 13 years old and attends a local county high school in Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire.
In the last 12 months he has been physically threatened so that he was too scared to go to school, he has been kicked, thumped, framed for thieving, had almost an entire year 8 waiting to 'do him in' and been accused of spreading such malicious rumours that even an adult would not repeat.

Most of the trouble has been unretalliated by my son as I have tried my best to persuade him that it takes a better man to walk from an arguement than to get into a fight and that violence should be a last means of defence.

Solicitors have been seen, school headteachers and staff brought in to get to the bottom of it and police have been threatened yet it gets sorted for a few days/weeks/months and then starts all over again.

The same children are involved every time but so far 'a good talking to' is all that the school will offer. Transferring to another school is out of the question due to lack of places so my son must keep suffering all the harrassment or be taught at home.

What interests me but also irates me is the fact that no stronger punishment is forthcoming for bullying of this kind yet being caught smoking can get you suspended for 2 weeks. Has my son got victim tattooed on his forehead? or is this beginning to get the norm in schools?

In September he shall return to the same school but he is scared as he knows not what awaits him. If fear like this occurs in schools surely something must be enforced or the generations in schools now and to come will be the 3rd World War fighters of the future not a means to our defence.

I totally agree with cheekychicken. Schools and people alike should not tolerate this kind of horrible behaviour. It should be a suspension on the first time then expolltion. Children being bullied should not be the ones to have to look elsewhere to school and should have the freedom to stay in the school with the bullies being the ones to move.
