Advantages: Small, light, compact, crystal clear sound, anti-shock

Disadvantages: None!

If you decide to buy a Minidisc player, get the best one around. New Minidisk players are coming out all the time, and if you go for one which you are buying because it is cheap, there is no point in buying one. You see, when you buy a Minidisc player, as some people know, you will be sucked into loving it. Then you will wish about buying the next model up and spending that extra £30 instead of buying your one.

If you are looking for portability, you may as well buy an MP3 player. Although some Minidisc players are extremely small (namely the Sony MZ-R900), MP3 players can be the size of a stick. But with MP3 players, the sound is not that good, and you can only record from your computer.

Don’t buy a Minidisc player just because it looks good. Sometimes you may be getting ripped off, and you are buying a Minidisc player just because it is “cute” instead of going for features. That’s what you should look for. Features. This is the most important aspect when buying a Minidisc player. There are many cool features on Minidisc players, the latest one is changing the speed of the song.

Never buy your Minidisc player from High Street shops. If you look online, you will find it at least £20-£30 cheaper. If the player you want is on dooyoo, just click on it, and then click on “Buy with Dealtime.”

Go for Minidiscs with remotes. Some even have an indigo backlit remote control. This helps you to see what you are playing in the dark. If you get one with a remote control, make sure it is a good one. Don’t just get one which has the standard features of play, stop, pause, forward and rewind. Get the works. My Minidisc player (Sony MZ-R900) remote control does everything that the actual player can do PLUS it can change the speed of the song.

Finally, ALWAYS buy a Minidisc player which actually records. There is a Goodmans player which all High Street retailers sell for around £100, and they adv
ertise it and say it is on offer. What they do not mention is that it does not record, and you will be surprised by the amount of people who buy Minidiscs players which do not record without them even knowing. I mean, it’s obvious really, isn’t it? When you buy a Minidisc player, you expect it to record-99% of the people buy it to record, not just to play.

So I guess buying a Minidisc player is all about taste. If you want to go for size, buy an MP3 player. If you want quality, go for Sony. (I highly recommend Sony MZ-R900).

Good point, but the MZR-900 battery life is 64 hours! Which walkman do you have which lasts more than 64 hours???

Good opinion, but I don't agree with you that you should always go for a recorder. I mean, I bought an MZ-R900 from Argos, and ended up taking it back because it was so heavy, that my cassette walkman was lighter! (And the battery lasted longer!) I ended up getting an MZ-E900 instead - much more lighter and compact - it is so thin! But this is just me cos I already have an MD Hi-Fi that does all my recording. If you already have something that records - forget getting a recordable one, but if you don't have something to record - then get a recorable one.
