From what I can gather there are variations of the soup and the diet. This one was received as part of an e-book from EBay with other weightwatchers stuff.

January 2008 - I was a Size 20, I was 17 stone (5'9"). I was miserable. I had always been overweight and promised myself I would sort my life out. I didn't and just got bigger. I couldn't seem to find a diet that I enjoyed and that was long lasting. I was a diet failure. But I ws always loved by my friends and boyfriend, so it didn't seem to matter that much.

I eat well, veg, fruit, I eat anything. Not fussy at all - and that is where the problem lies. I bought for the princely sum of 99p an e-book from a seller on ebay. They will never know how much this has changed my life so far.

I do have a bit of a comfort eating thing and I know I do it, when I am alone, when I am unhappy, at the weekends, when I'm bored. But now it had to stop. My trousers were tight after Christmas again. I couldn't take anymore. So after reading that I could lose 10-15lbs in a week on the cabbage soup. I gave it a whirl. Me and the other half had put on weight. We both gave it a go for the following week:-


Eat the soup as much as you can, whenever you like. You can also drink Unsweetened tea, Cranberry juice and lots of water. No alcohol, and no alcohol for 2 days after finishing the diet.

Recipe for the Soup

1 cabbage
2 green peppers
Onion Soup Mix
6 Spring Onions
2 tins of tomatoes
A bunch of Celery
Salt & Pepper
Oxo Cube (or Vegetable Stock)

Cut the vegetables into small - medium pieces, cover the vegetables half way with water. Boil for 10 minutes, then simmer until the vegetables are tender.

Day 1
All fruit except bananas

Day 2
All vegetables, fresh and cooked. Do not eat Beans, peas or corn.
For Dinner have a large baked potato with butter.

Day 3
Mix day 1 & Day 2 - no potato

Day 4
Up to 8 Bananas and as much skimmed milk as you can manage

Day 5
10-20 ounces of beef or chicken and a can of tomatoes or 6 fresh tomatoes. Drink lots of water

Day 6
As much beef or chicken as you like with lots of vegetables.

Day 7
1 serving of Brown Rice & lots of vegetables and unsweetened juice.


OK so it's a week that I can manage, half way through I was suffering, but I was edging ever closer to MEAT DAY! I found doing day 1-5 while I was working was good as I could have Friday as meat evening. Saturday as Burger (without the bun) day and Sunday - was on the carbs!

~The Smell ~

I found, as with Brussels sprouts, if you cook them too much it gives you wind. This is the same with cabbage. The soup is very tomatoey just with a bit of veg, so contrary to popular belief is not green. It is red !. Add salt and lots of pepper to give it a kick. You can also add herbs, spices and chilli if you find it bland. For 2 of us we followed the recipe above and made about 3/4 pots of soup in a week as I would have it for dinner and the other bits like fruit/veg in the day time to take to work.

~Water~

The more you drink, the more you shrink - the adage goes. You need to drink plenty of water to flush the acid from the tomatoes, this can be particularly problematic at night. Waking up in the middle of the night to go to the loo is very annoying! Limit your drinking and try and eat your soup earlier on.

~How It Works~

I'm not sure this is fat burning soup as much as it is food separating. The fruit and veg are water based and this will drain you of your excess water. You are not consuming a lot of calories, the soup is mainly water and apparently eating lots of tomatoes has slimming properties. You are not eating too much anyway. But....

~WeightLoss~

I know you are eager to know how it went ! My first few days there was no weight loss. I was crushed. But carried on. I got to Sunday and I lost 11 lbs. In a week. Amazing. I have no idea how I did it, but I did. Following this I followed the weightwatchers points diet, this taught me that I was eating way too much. My portions were twice what I should be eating for dinner. Which helped me assess my portion size, so I managed to keep the 11lbs off and lose a few more. A few months later I embarked on another stint and lost another 10lbs. Did the weightwatching thing and got that up to a stone. So I managed to get to 15 stone, Size 16 and feeling happier and buying smaller clothes.

~Now~
Over Christmas I let it slide. There were lots of celebrations going on and I have put on some of the weight. So today I started the soup again. Well I've just had grapes, tea and an apple so far and will have soup for dinner. I aim to get back to where I was - at 15 stone. A target weight for me is 11stone and to keep the pressure on I am bridesmaid to one of my friends in August 2010. So hopefully my profile picture will change to be one of a proper stunner in a bridesmaid outfit.

I will also count points for a while until I am back in the Zone! I will also do another week of Cabbage soup in March, April and May. They say that because of the extreme nature of this diet it is not healthy to continue this after one week - you need a rest!

~Conclusion~

I recommend this diet for anyone who has a lot of weight to lose as it is water based you will lose it quicker than someone with less to lose. If you have a problem with food and find it difficult to stay on a diet, give yourself a week to try this out. That is why I succeeded in this diet as the results are instant and you can see it working. It will encourage you to stay on top of the weight you have achieved. This is also great if you have over indulged and want to lose the few pounds you have put on when on holiday, also if you want to lose a few before you go away.

My mate did this diet and the weight loss was amazing. However this is a diet you really need to stay on and it isn't healthy and to lose weight that quickly means you'll put it on quickly and more in the long run. I was goin to try it till I saw her go from size 18 to size 12 and then up to a size 20 in quick time.

I did weightwatchers and its a diet I can work with for life. Its no quick remedy granted but it healthier and I lost 7 stone and no food is a sin. I couldnt eat that diet and wouldnt want to, its just a quick unhealthy way to ditch some pounds, it doesnt provide all the vitamins you need. I personally have a slow thyroid and a vitamin b and potasium definciency Id die on this lol x Great review x
