Advantages: fast weight loss
Disadvantages: little variety, bad smells, possiblke health problems
The cabbage soup diet....okay, it works, it really does. want to know why? I won't go into detail on what the diet itself involves, thet is explained perfectly in several of the other opinions here, I'll just tell you what I know of it. The diet is given to very obese patients with heart problems, who cannot be operated on safely until they lose weight. In these cases, the risks of not losing weight are more than the risks of losing it too fast. The basic foods (fruit, veg, beef, chicken, tomatoes etc...) that you eat on different days to accompany the diet are not the main part of it. The soup is vital, it is a diuretic, this means you pass water more often. The large amount of water you must drink each day does the same. While this flushes out your system, it also puts a strain on your kidneys and can mean you do not absorb enough nutrients. If you must do this diet, at least never do it two weeks running. Take a break of a few days between each diet cycle. Also consider if it is worth it, essentially a crash diet, the weight is likely to pile straight back on later, it deprives you of a lot of food, can give you embarrassing wind and the smell of the stuff is truly hellish. Not recommended.
