Genius (Cadbury's Gorilla Advert)
Member Name: lisajane100
Advantages: Makes you smile Disadvantages: None This advert is just genious. A gorilla playing the drums (very well) to Phil Collins' 'In the air tonight' advertising chocolate! Absolutely nothing to do with chocolate but still an effective advertising strategy. The song is key to the success of this advert. The advert starts by moving slowly across the gorillas eyes while the music begins to play. You then see the gorilla taking some deep breaths in and out with his eyes closed as if he is preparing himself for what is to come. This coincides with the start of Phil collins singing. The first time you see this advert you wonder what is going to happen next and it keeps you watching as you are intrigued by the appearence of the gorilla. At the point of when the drums start to play in the song is when it all becomes clear. The gorilla was psyching himself up to play the drums along with the music. The gorilla actually looks as though he is really enjoying 'being in the moment' playing the drums. At the end of the advert you realise that it was actually advertising Cadburys dairy milk. You're slightly confused about why a gorilla playing the drums has anything to do with chocolate but it made you smile and you remember the advert. Great advertising. Summary: Nothing to do with chocolate but you get to see a gorilla playing the drums |
