Advantages: Hmm....not really available.

Disadvantages: The same.

I think capital punishment is disgusting. We should not kill someone because they too have killed, i think a life imprisonment in a damp and dark prison, with no contact with anybody would be a much better punishment than execution.
Besides, if we murder someone because they to have murdered, than that makes us as bad as the murders. Yes, people who kill other people are insane, but they are still people and should be treated as such, not just a dumb animal who should be slaughtered.
There are far more effective punishments. Psychological ones. making the murder think about what he has done, and forcing him to remember the life of this person, and his/her family.
Before long, they will no doubt see the error of what they have done, and become a law abiding citizen.
Playing upon the mind is the most powerful thing you can do, much worse than just getting killed, and that's it.

Summary: Capital punishment needs to be abolished.
