Car Boot Sales.
I am recent addict to car boot sales! I'm not quite sure how it came about, but as me and my partner have just moved into our first flat, we have needed any extra cash we can get our hands on, plus a desperate need to declutter ( Well, actually thats just me, my partner hardly owns anything, whereas my stuff is in piles and boxes all over!). So we decided to go along to a local carboot!
What i can tell you is that i didnt expect to enjoy it at all, I thought it was all old people, and other peoples tat.. Oh how mistaken i was, its a long time since something has got me up before 11 on a sunday morning, but I enjoy my car boots so so much, that i hardly even grumble getting up at 6 in the morning, even if i have been out the night before!
Now i may sound kind of sad here, but last week as we were so short on cash, and still have so much to sell, we decided to do one on both saturday and sunday morning! And we are to repeat this this weekend too!
An average car boot morning for us is..
6AM- Yawn. Alarm goes off, i jump out of bed quickly so i dont fall back to sleep, and get dressed in anything i can lay my hands on!
6.30AM- Pack the car. We have everything ready in the hall, we just never quite get round to packing the car the night before!
6.45AM- Some how crawl into the car, very squashed due to the size of the car (its tiny) and the amount of things we sell (ALOT!!)
7.00AM- Arrive at the site and begin to unpack the car, whilst being accoisted by people asking if we have any jewellry, perfume, DVD's, mobile phones etc. Have to ask many people not to just jump in the car and have a root around!
7.30AM- The next hour or two are usually our busiest for selling any expensive items. We drink countless cups of tea amd have a good old laugh at the bargain hunters. Many people are determined that they deserve your items for free! Also i have noticed that many people seem to just come for the free bags, many a time someone has asked for a bag once we have run out, and once i have told them this they pull around 40 bags out of their pocket! Why the obbsession?!
9.30AM- Families begin arriving, and we begin parting ith all our old toys! I hate to admit it, but i very nearly got emotional when selling a My Little Pony i had owned since i was around 4!
10.30AM- We get cheeseburgers. Not a usual breakfast, but we've been up for hours working hard, we deserve it!
11.00AM- I go for a wander round the stalls to see what is up for sale! This is torture at the moment as i cannot afford anything and i know that if i buy one bargain i will not be able to stop my self, but it is interesting, and once i have some money i will definately treat myself!
12.00NOON- Back to the stall and we count our takings! We have never made less that around £50 profit, and have often made more, so not bad for a mornings work.
1.00PM- Begin to pack up between 1 and 2 usually, getting a few last minute sales from people affraid of missing anything!
So, that is how we spend our sunday, and now saturday mornings!
I really do enjoy carboots, and as i am only 18 i wouldnt really think i was your average carbooter!
Try it for your self, Even if you dont sell anything you will probably have a laugh, even if it is at the customers expense!
Thank you for reading :) Hannah.x.
Summary: It may surprise you, but they really are enjoyable!
