Advantages: clear out your clutter and make some money

Disadvantages: you may come back with some one elses clutter

I first ventured into the world of carboot sales last summer, it was a case of need to rather than want to.
Money was tight and our house seemed to be filled with lots of stuff that we never used, i was already using ebay a lot as with three young children they were always growing out of things.
The appeal of the boot sale was we could get rid of the big things that its hard to sell on ebay and it was instant money and not wrapping and posting.
We found out about a local one and went one sunday to check it out and see what sort of things people were selling, it was quite a big boot sale with about seventy cars and they were seeling all sorts so we decided to give it a go.
I spent the next week sorting out all the things that we could sell and decided to put little price stickers on them, i know alot of people dont do that but i think that it works quite well.
It cost ten pounds for our pitch and we set up with a wall paper table and were off,
be prepared for dealers to be rooting around in your stuff before you set up and asking you what you have, i found that we sold a lot of things before the public were even in!.
i would also sugest that you take something to eat and drink and have something warm to wear.
dont be afraid to haggle as well seasoned buyers will often start with a bad price.
the first time we did it we made over £100 pounds but we have done it since and sometimes only made £20 or £30 pounds but if you have made back your entrance fee and cleared some clutter its been worthwhile.
Just try not to spend all that you have earned!, i know some people who clear all their clutter and come back with some one elses!.
I found that the things that sell well are, Silver, computer games, pottery and baby items such as cots, buggys and prams.

Summary: overall a good day out, clear some clutter and make some money

Being less hardy in harsh weather conditions than some, I prefer to do table top sales, but I have had similar experiences. I especially agree with you about price stickers, haggling, early dealer offers and taking your own food and drink.
