Advantages: Bargain buys and easy sales

Disadvantages: Some might not like the early mornings...possible to come away with more clutter than you went with!

The world of The Car Boot Seller is one that some people may never know exists, tip-toeing out the house at 6am on a Sunday morning with your car crammed to the ceiling with goodies, a packed breakfast and a pocket full of change. Ahhh 6am never felt so good!

If you have never been to a car boot you are missing out.

For any of you out there that don't know the structure of a car boot - they are usually held in a field on a Sunday morning. Anybody who has anything that they want to sell (it can literally be anything that you have lieing around the house/garden/garage from postage stamps to cars) can turn up and pay a few quid for a pitch. You drive your car onto the pitch and set out the things that you want to sell. Most people bring their own fold out table or hire one from the venue for a couple of quid.

People then turn up and walk around the tables looking for stuff they want to buy from you - and that's basically it. It's a very simple formula and literally anybody can do it.

It is traditional car boot custom to 'haggle' for a good price and the banter that goes on between sellers and buyers is all part of the fun of car booting.

The great thing about selling at car boots is that you never failed to be shocked by the fact that somebody will actually pay money for something that you have had cluttering up your home for years and have been meaning to throw out. It's always the things that you don't expect will sell that do...and vice versa.

Typical things that sell well at boot sales are kids clothes, toys, books, dvds, cds, electrical items but you can more or less shift anything!

What sells well and for what prices depends on the area that you live in and the size of the boot sale.

From a buyers point of view - it's great fun wondering leisurely around looking at everybodys items and you really can pick up some amazing bargains.

Tips for sellers -
Labelling items with prices can prevent timewasters who are trying to get something for nothing
Start off with a high price as all buyers will try their luck at haggling
Take food and drink with you so you don't spend all your profits on refreshments
Get there early to get the best pitch
As soon as you park your car you will have people trying to pick through all your things - these are probably other traders looking to buy things from you to sell on their own stalls for a profit - do not be fooled by their low offers!
Take a float of change with you
Take something to sit on - it will be a long morning
Unless you are looking for something in particular - don't look at the other stalls otherwise you will come home with more things to clutter up your house and no money to show for what you have sold!

Tips for buyers

Get there early to get the best items before they get snapped up
If you stay until the end - sellers will be dropping their prices in an aim to get rid of everything so they don't have to take it all home again!

Summary: Fiind bargains that you wouldn't find anywhere else and make money out of your household clutter
