Advantages: make good money out of your unwanted items

Disadvantages: cold early mornings. setting up and packing away.

As you have maybe know from some of my previous reviews. I am seriously, the worlds most annoying person to live with. I'm always cleaning and organising and If something hasn't been used or worn in a six month period then I would take it up the dump to the recycling. The things I have put out for recycling is quite criminal really. When I think back. I have put some of my hubby's henry Lloyd and polo shirts in the clothes recycling. I have given away expensive lamps that don't go with my colour scheme anymore and generally have been handing over considerably large sums of money in terms of the value of these items.
About three months ago I was having one of my usual mad head sort outs and eventually on the landing there were three black bags of clothes, two black bags full of unused toys a Disney princess duvet cover, curtains and light shade. Usually I would have just piled them into my car and taken them up the skip. However that very afternoon I was reading the local newspaper and in the what's happening in your borough section, a local boot sale was advertised. It was like a eureka moment for me, and I decide there and then I was going to take my things to sell them.
I paid £4.00 for my pitch and took a while to set everything up. My apprehension that I would not sell anything, was diminished as people were offering me cash for items when I hadn't even set my stall up properly. I couldn't believe how eager people were to buy things that I didn't need or want anymore. First off I started selling things for 50p or a £1 but looking back now I know that I was selling them far too cheaply. One man even asked me if I was serious when I told him a well known branded jacket was going for £2. He nearly ripped my arm off and ran off down the field frightened that I might change my mind. I realise now I could have sold that jacket for about £15 at boot sale but I suppose like everything else you learn the ropes as you go along.
That day I sold quite a lot of my 'stock' and made a considerable amount of money. I was really thrilled and felt quite euphoric that my old stuff could raise that amount of cash. My husband was very pleased too and was very supportive of my new hobby.
Since that First boot sale I have done three more. I try to do one every month. However I have found that you can sell almost anything at boot sale. people are willing to purchase most things for a bargain and I have sold things that I would have put in the bin a few months ago. For example old brick a brac. They swarm when you put this on your table. I think they are all trying to be the person who finds a multi million pounds antique for 20p. (It has happened though). Other things that sell well are children's toys, books, and dvds. I have picked up this tip that if you put something on your table that will attract a child then your on to a winner as when the parents are at your table they will 9 times out of 10 buy something. God I just read that last sentence and I think im morphing into Del Trotter!!
In conclusion I would say that boot sales are quite good fun. Yes you do have to get up very early but for an insomniac like me that isnt a problem. The bit I hate the most is loading the car so I delegate that job to my husband. I love the atmosphere in a car boot sale every one is there to have a browse and I have had some really nice chats with people who have bought something from me. It really does promote community spirit.
So my advice would be to give a boot sale a go. If not for selling, then have a browse. You might pick up an amazing bargain, that will make your day. But if you do sell things please make sure they are of a good standard. There is nothing worse than buying an electrical item from a boot sale to find that it doesn't work. It just makes you feel a bit cheated. So never rip people off and you wont go far wrong.

Summary: how \Ive become addicted to the thrill of selling something even if its 50p!! lol.
