Advantages: Find some bargins, have a good day, sell unwanted stuff too

Disadvantages: Watch out for commerical traders

I think car boot sales are widely underated. Many people (who would class themselves as the crust of this country) turn their noses up at the thought of buying anothers 'junk'.

As the saying goes, 'one man's trash is another man's treasure'. And this is so true. I must admit, I don't get the chance to go to them very often, as I work 7 days a week most of the time. But when I get the chance, I go along for a few hours.

Going to a car boot sale isn't just about buying 'crap'. It can be a pleasant day out, presuming that you select one in a nice location. Most larger car boot sales have catering vans so you can buy a burger to ruin your dinner with.

I like to go with some friends or family, call it a laugh. If you all set a budget of say £5, you can go of by one's self and try and see who can salvage the biggest bargins. Highly amusing if you're going the morning after, so to speak.

But car boot sales aren't just about picking up a bargin, they're also about getting rid of what you no longer need. Most places charge around £3-£5 for a plot per day. You usually make around £80 depending what you're selling.

My favorite part of car boot sales is the haggling. I love it, I really do. Reminds me of my holiday I had in Turkey!

There is one major downside. There are many commerical or professional traders to watch out for. Some of which will buy up your goods early in the day and sell them on for more. SO try and watch out that you aren't getting ripped off.

At the end of the day, you may have a few odds and sods left over that you didn't sell, I suggest you take them down to your local charity shop and let them make a few pennies from your successful day.

TIPS: Get to the car boot sale early, watch your personal belongings and watch out for the old dear's elbows early in the day as they tend to aim for your ribs :)

I think these days its just as easy - if not more so - to sell your unwanted stuff on one of the online auction sites.
