As my husband left a few months ago, it’s been a good long while since my lawn has had a good seeing to. Working on the lawn was always his responsibility you see, and though he didn’t go over it as regularly as he should have, I was reasonably happy with it and it gave us both some pleasure. I caught a glimpse of my lawn the other day and was shocked by how unkempt and sad it looked. It is an area I’ve really neglected. I realised I hadn’t cared for, or even used, my lawn for months. In fact, I hadn’t even ventured down there for ages, let alone had a play or a potter around. Winter is approaching and I decided it was ...  Read the complete review

Woolly bears in the garden? . While working in the garden tidying up the plants I glimpsed an animal walking stealthily, silently through the undergrowth. I parted the long grasses and looked behind the dead flowers I saw a big brown hairy ..??..Caterpillar! It was a woolly bear at least this is the name I have given it since childhood. It is a moth caterpillar. When this caterpillar changes to a moth after its pupal stage it will become a??.?Tiger Moth, (I think this one really is a Ruby tiger moth) the tiger moth is becoming les common in England. Now that I have secured a new lawn the grass is truly greener on my side of the fence. My new lawn sits neatly in the middle of a rather hilly but enticing piece of landscape. Right now I am like a kid in a sweetshop, spending all of my spare time making sure my lawn is well cared for. I really hope that the novelty never wears off, and I truly believe that it wont. I'd like to be caring for this perfect lawn for a long time to come. A lawn should be carefully maintained to keep it fresh and inviting. It does require a little seeing to now and again, so I like to get the appropriate tool out and give it a good going over as often as possible. There ...  Read the complete review

How to care for your lawn? Well really how do you begin to start, firstly you have to decide on the type of lawn that you have the so-called ideal lawn is the velvety lawn that gives the impression of being a Bowling Green. This is composed mainly of fine leaved compact grasses, you do not find rye grass in lawns of this type, the lawn is also kept closely cut to carpet pile sort of height. This lawn is very much of the classical sort and is ideal for areas that are seen but not walked on by too many people. It is an ornamental lawn and not suitable for those of us with children. Be warned though this type of lawn is a thing of beauty but takes a lot ...  Read the complete review

The secret of a good looking lawn is simply feed, weed and water. In addition you need to cut it regularly, remembering not to cut it too short during prolonged dry spells. 1) Feeding I use a feed that dissolves in your watering can and which you then water on to the lawn. I find this much easier than using a granular feed that you apply with a spreader. I use Phostrogen Lawn Food, which is applied once a month from April until September. I find that this product works very well and keeps the grass looking green and healthy. 2) Weeding To control and eliminate most weeds I use a product called Verdone 2. This is widely available ...  Read the complete review
