Carlisle United Football Club Est.: 1904 Division: 3 Chairman: John Courtney Manager: Roddy Collins Club Captain: Peter Murphy So the next op in my football series involves the team I supported since I was about 5. Although the first game I ever went to was a Newcastle game and that I’m now a Reading fan, Carlisle United were the club I was brought up on. My Dad being a die hard Cumbrian hasn’t made the switch to Reading quite as easy as I have as he will always be the Blue of Carlisle at heart. However despite my allegiance to the Royals I will always go to Carlisle games when they come down south and occasionally make ...  Read the complete review

The life of a Carlisle fan is never dull. Since Michael Knighton bought the club around a decade ago we have been promoted to Division 2 twice, been relegated back twice. Visited Wembley twice and won the Auto Windscreen Shield on one occasion. We have most notably in recent years been stuck deep in Relegation battles at the foot of the table. Surviving last year with a game to spare and on in 2000 on the last day. Lets of course not forget the Greatest Escape ever in 1999. Not many football fans get to witness their club staying up on the last day of the season, with the last kick of the game and the goal coming from an on loan goalkeeper that the club had to gain ...  Read the complete review

If you have any slight interest in football, especially the third division, then you will know about all the struggles each year to avoid the drop. Carlisle United are often amongst the bottom pack, and have been for many years. They only question I ask is how much longer can they survive? The harsh reality is that the drop out of the football league means so much for the clubs. The divide between two divisions is wide, not in football terms, but in terms of money. Ok, so we are not exactly talking the Premiership millions, but every team in the third division will get about £500,000 or half a million a year for the TV rights. This is mostly from ITV, and the ...  Read the complete review

In my opinion, Carlisle United are the greatest team in the world. Obviously, I know this isn't quite as true as i'd like it be as at the present time Carlisle United are rooted to the foot of the third division. I have been a Carlisle United fan for about 9 years, and the first match I went to see was Carlisle v Lincoln, which we won 2-0 in the 92/93 season. Carlisle is one of the furthurst northern places in England and lies just on the border of Scotland. This means that we are the only proffessional club in Cumbria. However, this could soon change as Carlisle remain bottom of the third division, with no decent players and no money in the kitty. ...  Read the complete review

Carlisle United F.C.: The worst fans in the country (307 words)

I am a Chester fan, called me biased I do not mind, but Carlisle fans have got to be the biggest @ssholes in the football league, they are much hated, and I have to say that I dislike them even more than I dislike teams like Man United. Two seasons in a row Carlisle have just scraped survival in the football league and two seasons running they have proven just how scummy they really are, they came to Chester last season and tore up our railway station and they caused as much trouble as they could, I ended up getting in a fight with a big group of them and almost getting arrested, even though it was them mouthing off and not me. But I would not think ...  Read the complete review
