It was almost anything they touched that went down hill, although now considered a bit of a dark era for the station, it did lead to board realising that people will not watch complete crap. The first major progression away from this was when the station bought the rights to show Australian daytime soap Home and Away, although only the second best Aussie soap to be ... more

Premium Review Channel 5: American based TV for English Audiences (647 words)

Five was, before I moved back in with my mum, my most watched station, and argueably the only reason I had a TV lisence. You may all be calling me a fool, but I am willing to admit I am (ha up yours :-P), Channel 5 was once described by it's head leader person as "Much more than just films football and fucking". This was said when then Channel was still Channel 5 rather than the rebranded Five, where the channel managed to get it's figures from late night Friday porn movie's and it's football coverage (Eufa cup). The porn hurt the company some what devaluing it as a mainstream terestrial station, and something they took several years to get over, and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review From Zero To 5 Star Hero (557 words)

When Channel 5 started it was a channel that evidently didn't have much money to splash out on quality programming. It's content was mainly made up of bad US TV imports such as 'Animals Attack!" and Z-List direct to video movies although Friday nights were a nice line in soft porn. But that was then and this is now, a few years ago Five wasn't available to everyone but now the advent of digital TV means that a lot of people should be able to get a clear reception by investing in freeview box. Channel 5 is one now one of the best channels to invest in that box for. If you look at TV at the moment then you'll see that the UK output seems ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Channel 5: C5 - At least theres CART (140 words)
by - written on 30/09/00 (Useful, 9 readings)
Rating:

I am a fan of CART and normally I have to make do with the coverage that Eurosport provides, eratic and not always consistent, but good when it actually takes place. Of course, if Eurosport fails, or if I miss it then I can always catch it on C5, albeit at some unearthly hour. But hey what are video recorders for. That is of course if C5 is available in your area, we only get it through digital. Also of note on C5 is the motogp, although they only show the 500cc race, and although this is the feature I often find that the 125cc and 250cc classes provide a more exciting race. All 3 classes are shown live on Eurosport. Wouldnt it be great if ITV ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review If all else fails - CART is on C5 ! (166 words)
by - written on 03/08/00 (Very useful, 25 readings)
Rating:

I'm a big CART (Indycar) fan. Its usually on Eurosport though when more important events are on eg U14 football from Venezuala - it gets quietly dropped. This is where C5 come in. They have a program called 'Live and Dangerous' on most nights and on Tuesday morning about 4am - they show the last CART race. It comes in a highlight package and is basically the Eurosport coverage with the British commentators. I missed the Michigan 500 recently and so I taped the race. What impressed me were the lack of adverts. No-one watches at that time of the morning and so why bother - great stuff. If you are happy to watch a race a few ...  Read the complete review
