Advantages: good attacking play
Disadvantages: few british players
Chelsea will be hoping for a better season this year, than they did last year. They only just managed a uefa cup place (which by their standards is poor), and they were dumped out of the uefa cup very early on by little known Swiss club St Gallen. However money has been spent well recently. Dutch Winger B Zenden (i can't spell his first name)should turn out to be an inspired signing, and Frank lampard is already proven in the premiership. In defence they have the experienced french international marcel Desailly, who is now joined in the centre back role by England prospect John Terry, who replaces the departed Frank lebouef. They have a good choice for the full backs between England player graeme LeSaux, Gallas and Melchiot (a young dutch international). In midfield they have the already talked about lampard and Zenden. These were crutial signings due to to the departure of Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet. On the wing is the speedy jasper Gronkier, who when on his day is frightening. Jody Morris and new signing manu petit make up a very strong Chelsea midfield. Up front Chelsea have a big decision to make. Gianfranco Zola, a small but extremely skillful old italian who can still scare defences. Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink, an arrogant dutch man with pace and a giant shot, or the young Icelander, Eider Gudjohson, signed from Bolton, who has the skill, and finishing to score past any defence. Thank god the decision on which two start isn't mine. In goal Ed de Goey is usualyy preferred, but mark Bosnich is still waiting patiently for his first game. Overall i think chelsea have the potential to do well this season. With a good draw in the uefa cup they can go far and possibly win it, but thier priority has to be fighting for that third champions league place.
