Advantages: easy to find, good value for money

Disadvantages: shower difficult to adjust, poor TV reception

Booking
I booked on the Internet at www.travelodge.co.uk. This is very quick and easy. Some areas have lots of Travelodges, so its best to type in the postcode on the front page and a list of the nearest 5 Travelodges are given. Be careful, this is "as the crow flies" so check on a map the nearest really is the nearest by road. The room cost £30 per night, winter special rate. Breakfast not included.

Finding the Travelodge
Travelodge provide a very clear map in their directory (order one online) or you can print out from the site. In this case the Travelodge is located on the A61 north towards Sheffield, Chesterfield inner ring road on the northern outskirts of town. Its about 3 miles from junction 30 of the M1.

Checking in
I thought I had paid online but giving credit card details only reserves the room. Booking in and paying (cash, visa, switch) took less than 5 minutes.

Facilities
Standard Travelodge room with king size bed and sofa bed. There is a small amount of hanging space, extra quilt, pillows and spare sheet (to make up the sofa bed). Shower over bath is a "self-mixer" (the newer Travelodges have temperature controlled showers). Tea tray and kettle in the room, with extra supplies available for free (when reception is open). Make sure you arrive prepared with toiletries etc, these can be bought from reception but are expensive and choice is limited. TV reception was appalling, snowy/distorted picture on all channels.

Nearby
I was given vouchers to get 20% off the adjacent Little Chef (there is also a Burger King) but I'd noticed a Tesco store nearby so I ate there (much better value). At the time of writing (January 2004) Tesco do a twelve item all day breakfast for £2.99. Magic value.

bye then.

Talk about over-react but was there any need to be nasty to anyone?

MRSCANADA, please note its right (correct) not write (to scribble).
ANGUSREID, surely a hotel in Chesterfield is Chesterfield in general.
PROXAM, I assume that someone looking for a hotel will be looking for one in a particular area, so they wont read all the travelodge reviews, only the one in the area they are staying in.
Regarding the placement of the opinion, I did a search for Chesterfield Hotel and dooyoo suggested this section. I have asked dooyoo to move/remove this opinion.
Thankyou all for rating my opinions, I'm continuing until I have enough points to donate them to charity then I will be closing my account.

This is off topic. lease re-post it in the travel lodge section and not the speakers corner, as it is meant to be about Chesterfield in general. Regards. Angus
