Choosing The Right Housemate ... go about making the right choice and avoiding the crazies out there?

Newest Review: ... was even better. I admit that I am not perfect and that I have habits that I am sure annoy people (and I know what most of these are) but I also have the respect to try not to do them when others are around, but my mate just didn't care. It got to the point where we all did what we wanted, irrespective of each other's feelings and I am ashamed to admit that I included myself in this. These ... more

Moving out is a big step, and whilst we all have to do it and it is usually something we want to do quite quickly it is not something that should be rushed in to. I suspect very few of us want to live on our own and choosing the right housemate is not always as easy as first thought. So what makes a good housemate? I think it depends upon whether you are renting or whether you actually own the house and just need a lodger. ****Renting**** When I first moved out of my parents I moved in with a mate I had met whilst at college and one of his work colleagues. Being the sort of person I am I weighed up the pros and weighed up the ...  Read the complete review

A few months after moving into my house whilst I was away my mum decided to move in(got the key off my brother who was living with me and paying rent and I was annoyed because I knew I would not get any money for rent, housekeeping etc.......anyway for peace and quiet I let her stay. My brother was working for a local builder and his mate from school started working with him at first I thought he was ok, but a bit simple. Then I was away one weekend and came back to find my brothers friend had moved in. I was going mad at my brother, but the guy had agreed to pay me rent and gave me a deposit so that was that, as I say I thought he was ok. Boy how I was wrong ...  Read the complete review

Im not too sure if this situation has happened before, unfortunatly most of my friends find it hilarious.. The previous year there was a group of us friends who went out together to clubs, hung arround together etc...It all kinda of split up, I was friends still with all of them. I moved into a house with one of the guys and a girl who he knew. We moved into a house with two rooms with double beds and one tiny room which I was forced into (I could only fit a bed and a wardrobe in my room lol). It was all good for the first while untill it all went to hell. The guy for naming purposes I will call John revield he was gay and was moving his boyfriend into ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Housemates From Hell! (1219 words)

Housemates from Hell; There is unfortunately no science to picking your housemates; if people like the look of the house and the rent suits their budget, they will feign pretty much any personality on interview. I can only offer my own experiences and my reasons for choosing in the hope that they will guide anyone facing this minefield. I’ve had lots of lovely housemates that I’m still in touch with, but the ones that really stick in my mind seem to be these. So here are my worst housemates ever and the reasons I chose / had to live with them. All names have been changed, not to protect these people but to protect me from them. 1. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Choosing The Right Housemate: Keep your damn hands off my biscuits!!! (923 words)

When I left home for the “big city” at seventeen I moved into the university halls of residence, where I shared one toilet, one shower and one kitchen with 16 other people. Since then, I lived in seven different flats before finally getting one all by myself! I’ve just worked out that I’ve shared with 23 different people over the years. Some of the people that I shared with I knew beforehand, and others were strangers. Let me tell you that it doesn’t make any difference as to whether or not it will work out. I lived with a good friend for a year, and I ended up wanting to murder her. I’ve also lived with people I didn’t know, that I am still really good mates ...  Read the complete review
