Advantages: Traditional, cosy, sweet, with a catchy song!

Disadvantages: It may be replaced by inferior new versions

Aww, the classic Coca Cola Christmas advert. I can't believe it has its own place on Dooyoo, how lovely!

The commerical has been running for years. It shows a series of delivery lorries winding their way down a snow covered valley. The lorries are bright red and are all lit up with tiny white lights. On their sides and backs are pictures of a jolly bearded Santa Claus happily drinking a glass bottle of Coke. As the trucks pass through the valley, winding along the road in a bright, sparkly line, they cause colourful fairy lights to come on in the trees, delighting young children. They also make the lights that a man is using to decorate the outside of his house suddenly come to life. We then see a very sweet young boy and his father who have stopped in their car to watch the lorries, and the man puts his arm around his son. Whilst this is happening, the song 'Holidays are Coming' plays in the background. It starts off with lovely Christmassy chimes and sleigh-bell style sounds which continue throughout.

The advert is really beautiful. It has many of the trademarks of a traditional Christmas, such as the snow and the lights. Also, despite the fact that it is used for commercial purposes, it seems to embody the spirit of Christmas, in the way that the children seem overcome with the magic of the moment, and also the way that it brings together families who can share in the enjoyment.

I don't know anyone who doesn't love the advert and I always start to feel festive and cosy when it comes on TV towards the end of November. It has even been credited in the public consciousness with being the first place where Santa is shown in his traditional red suit, though there is some evidence that he had been depicted as such in earlier times.

In 2001 the commercial's broadcast was threatened as Coca Cola wanted to have new adverts with a different one for each country, but there was uproar from the general public, so this one has remained. However, new ones have also been produced, and currently there is one being shown that depicts Santa giving bottles of Coke to one woman throughout her life, from a young girl to an old lady, making her smile every time. Although this is a nice advert, it doesn't compare in atmosphere to the original.

You can see the long, 1 minute version of the advert on Youtube at:

Plus, you can see the lyrics to 'Holidays are Coming', and also to 'Wonderful Dream (Holidays are Coming)' by Melanie Thornton, which was inspired by the Coke song, at:

I can only hope that this advert continues to be shown forever as it is a true gem.

Summary: Adverts don't get much better than this

Great advert and yet another example of how the Coca Cola company essentially invented our modern capitalist Christmas. Ps. This isn't a socialist rant, I still drink the stuff.....

While I love this advert I am totally unsure why a review is needed of an advert? We can't buy the advert? Well maybe we can....Anyway, maybe I just don't always get the concept of DooYoo..
