Advantages: Great theme tune, very christmassy, it isn't christmas till you have seen it!
Disadvantages: None.
~ The advert - My Opinion ~
This is my favourite Christmas advert and my favourite of all time, and when this comes on the TV you know its getting a little bit closer to Christmas and spending lots of time with your family and friends and generally having a bloomin good time (in the words of father Christmas!).
I love the way it is presented stating that "holidays are coming", and it just makes you feel really Christmassy. They do tend to stick with red coca cola lorries with gorgeous white lights covering the trucks from top to bottom.
~ 2009 Advert: The Verdict ~
The advert makes me feel really Christmassy and starts off with a child looking out of the window of a house, looking out onto a snowy setting, the child runs out of the house and enters a woods just to try and catch a glimpse of the Coca Cola lorries (reminds me of a scene from the polar express movie, with the golden ticket). Then you get a full shot of the front of the truck and as it passes houses it lights up their houses in pretty lights (like magic!).
There is a crowd gathering as the lorries pass by, with the shot of a giant Christmas tree in the background. The truck has a giant picture of Santa drinking a Coca Cola bottle, then suddenly the child that was running to see the trucks gets to the front of the crown and gets a view of the trucks rear which has an even bigger logo of Santa.
I personally think that this is one of the best Coca Cola adverts for Christmas I have seen, I love it! Check it out on YouTube.
~ Theme Song ~
The song is sang by Melanie Thornton and the song is called Wonderful Dream (Holidays are coming) and reached number 9 in the German music chart, which is a interesting bit of information for you to dwell on. The song is obviously edited for the Coca Cola advert and just wouldn't be the same without it in the background in my opinion.
Melanie fronted the band La Bouche and had hits with songs Sweet Dreams and Be My Lover in the 90's. She sadly died in a plane crash in 2001 in Switzerland, but will long be remembered for her contribution to the Coca Cola advert theme.
~ To conclude...~
In a nutshell it isn't the chestnuts roasting on my open fire, it isn't Jack Frost nipping at my toes, and it certainly isn't the smell of mulled wine. Christmas becomes Christmas when I see the Coca Cola advert and it has to have snow, Santa and those large red lorries lit up like a Christmas tree, oh yes and a glass bottle of coke.
It all comes together brilliantly with the soundtrack behind the advert "holidays are coming", the colours of Santa and the use of snow and fairy lights make this a true Christmas classic.
Maybe I prefer this to any other because I have grown up in the commercial generation where everything is over commercialised but I don't care Christmas just isn't the same without it. Holidays are coming to a TV near you!
Summary: One of the best adverts ever! Christmas just isn't the same without it!
