Advantages: Nice relaxed environment, very child friendly, the cheap seats are very cheap!
Disadvantages: The team isn't much good at the moment
The Colorado Rockies are one of baseball's newest franchises, who after starting their days playing at an American football stadium in Denver, soon moved to their own purpose built stadium for the start of the 1995 season. They achieved very little of note over the next twelve years, before an amazing run at the end of the 2007 season took them to the World Series for the first time in their short history. There they faced the Boston Red Sox, a match up which in footballing terms would be like Liverpool playing Fulham. Much of America rooted for them, but the outcome was inevitable.
Since then things have reverted to type, with a poor 2008 season followed by the departure of star player Matt Holliday, and so far 2009 has been even more wretched. The World Series appearance perhaps raised false hopes amongst thir fans that they would become an established play off team, whereas the reality is that even in a weakish division, they are seemingly destined to be really successful only once in a while. That being said, they should still be doing better with the young talent which they have at their disposal - hence the reason why manager Clint Hurdle was given his marching orders today. However there remains a general air of discontent about the owners, who are perceived as being unprepared to thrust their hands that little bit deeper into their pockets to make the side a real force to be reckoned with.
Aside from all of this, if you are not really ever likely to be that interested in baseball but are spending some time in Denver, there are plenty who turn up at Coors Field who just fancy a night out, some beer and maybe a hot dog or two (although none of it comes cheap!) in a convivial environment. Thus your relative indifference will not be noticed as obviously as it might be in some other baseball stadia across the country. Definitely worth a try if you have not done it before - the views are stunning from the top deck, and the atmosphere is as relaxed and easygoing as you are ever likely to encounter at a top sporting event. And if you don't want to commit a lot of money to the evening out and don't have to be right on top of the action, you can get into the cheapest area of the ground for only four dollars!
Summary: Well worth a visit if you are in Denver
