Advantages: new evidence has come to light in recent years....
Disadvantages: too many unanswered questions remain.....
To quote ‘Who Killed Kurt Cobain ?’ by Ian Halperin and Max Wallace -
When the body of rock icon Kurt Cobain was found in his Seattle home with a bullet through his head, the reverberations were felt across the world. His untimely death in April 1994 was instantly labelled a suicide, a predictable rock n roll tragedy, and his millions of fans resigned themselves to the loss of their angst-ridden hero ……
BUT WAS IT REALLY THE OBVIOUS SUICIDE HIS FANS ACCEPTED ?
<><><><><><>& lt;><><><>
Tom Grant, a private investigator originally hired by Courtney Love to track Cobain upon his escape from rehab, continues to this day to research evidence as to how exactly Cobain’s death came to be. There is a damming amount of evidence that lends to allegations that Kurt was in fact murdered, yet it is a case which Seattle Police simply refuse to re-open. Rumours are rife of a cover up, and that the police know who murdered Kurt, yet know that it show up their own shoddy work if it ever came out. From my perspective, there is no question as to the fact that Cobain was murdered in April 1994, with mounting evidence showing a glaring number of police errors and potential cover-ups on their part, no of which point to the ‘easy’ conclusion of suicide to which this case was originally given. My intention here is to simply give my argument as to what I believe were the errors and how I believe they effected the outcome of the case - leading to a decade long argument as to who is the true guilty party in this mess of an investigation.

The Shotgun
~~~~~~~~~~
The shotgun itself, having been in Cobain’s hand for roughly three days since being used, would surely have contained a print of some description. Rumours indicate that it took Seattle police six weeks before actually examining the gun itself, only to discover no legible prints on the item in question. Argument will be that the gun may easily have swivelled in his hand, therefore removing any prints or damaging them to such a level they became unreadable - but that remains one of the most questionable areas of the investigation, as to how the murder weapon can have no legible prints on its surface. The truth about exactly how long it took the police to examine the weapon will be one of the sticking points in the investigation, showing that if they were incompetent enough to take that long to simply examine a gun, something that is a daily occurrence in the States, then what else may they have bungled in other areas. It will remain one of the most looked at areas, simply because it is the very item that took Cobain’s life, therefore will be under persistent scrutiny from fans looking for an answer to this decade long argument.
The Suicide Note
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Questions were raised almost immediately as to how Cobain’s suicide note came to have two differing sets of handwriting on it. It is believed that he himself wrote the main body of the text, with the final few (and more damming lines) were added at a later point. Reading the note, you get the sense of it being more of a retirement letter to his fans, stating that ‘he didn’t have the appreciation for it anymore’ and that he simply wanted to move on in his life - nothing to truly indicate potential suicide. Rumours were rife at the time, of how Cobain planned to divorce Courtney Love and move on with his life, leaving the Nirvana legacy behind, something that less than pleased Courtney. However much people wish to point the finger, there is absolutely nothing to indicate that it was in fact Ms Cobain that pulled the trigger - simply to much of a risk on her part, but the note does indicate that this became far more than Kurt wanted. Argument will be that the enlarged areas of the note may simply have been due to Kurt being high, therefore not keeping the same consistency in his writing that had been present before.
Questions that need answering here…..
- why do the two differing areas of writing indicate two completely diverse points of view ?
Kurt’s Credit Card
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The question to be asked here is as to how a dead mans credit card can continue in use after his death. The statement below confirms beyond any doubt that Cobain’s credit card was being used to withdraw large sums of money days after his body had been discovered in his home in Seattle - strange. Many say that it was in fact Courtney who was withdrawing money in the days after Kurt’s demise, yet this is the same card that was in fact cancelled immediately after Kurt escaped from rehab, now active again. This is another area that lends to possible police bungling - surely it isn’t that difficult for the police to track usage of a credit card, especially when considered as to whom the card belonged - something that more than aids the allegations that this may in fact be a police conspiracy and that they in fact know who the murderer is yet intend to do nothing about it.
The questions that need answering here…..
- who was using the card ?
- who re-activated the card (take into account that Kurt had died days before) ?
- why were such large amounts being withdrawn on an almost daily basis ?
Locked Doors
~~~~~~~~~~
When Kurt was discovered above the garage in his Seattle home, it was reported that he had barricaded himself in with a stool as to not be disturbed. Upon further inspection, the stool was found to in fact simply be sitting in front of the door - in no way obstructing the opening. This could indicate that someone else was in fact in the room with him, as opposed to being on his own. As this is one of the areas that leaves it down to personal perspective, whether you believe Kurt intended to barricade himself in or not, it is one of those things that will never prove as relevant as fingerprints and suicide notes. The fact that he in fact hadn’t locked himself in the room will leave many to therefore believe, myself included, that when he entered that room, he had every intention of leaving it rather then meeting the end with which he did.
Questions that need answering here…..
- the fact that he didn’t barricade himself in gives you the impression that he had the intention of leaving that very room a live man - so why would he suddenly change that reasoning ?
Heroin Levels
~~~~~~~~~~~
Probably the most questionable area of the case in general - how a man with a drug level above three times the lethal dose, could ever pick up a gun and pull the trigger. It’s a fair point, but even as the hardest of followers, I find it easy to dismiss this claim. Kurt was an addict, taking more and more every time, meaning he found it far easier to accept higher levels without passing out, something that is extremely relevant when considering the levels in his blood at this particular time. His system had become used to taking higher amounts, therefore making it very possible for him to still manage to pull the shotgun trigger without questionable doubt. A for the question as to how he would have managed to actually pick up the gun - it would have been very simple for Kurt to just lie down and place the gun across his chest and pull the trigger that way - as much as I hate to defend any area of this case, that is a possibility. There is however a damming point about why Cobain’s injection holes were so messy, particularly when considered that Kurt was an experienced user. Some have said that this is down to the fact that Kurt may not have been alone at all times and that he was at one time or another, injected against his will, placing more heroin into his system than he had ever intended, with the aim of incapacitating him.
Questions that need answering here…..
- why were Kurt’s injection holes so messy, as if to have been done against his will ?
- why were the needles and other paraphernalia packed away, and how could Cobain do so if he were virtually incapacitated ?
El Duce
~~~~~~
El Duce was a well known member of the band ‘The Mentors’, whilst also having a deep knowledge of the Seattle area. It is stated that on one occasion, Courtney Love pulled up outside a shop and held a conversation with him regarding Kurt Cobain. The transcript of the majority of the conversation is reproduced below -
C Love: "El, I need a favour of you. My old man's been a real asshole lately, I need you to blow his fucking head off."
El Duce: "Are you serious"?
C Love: "Yeah, I'll give you $50,000 to blow his fucking head off."
El Duce: "I'm serious if you are".
C Love: "Where can I reach you"?
El Duce: "You can reach me here".
taken from justiceforkurt.com -
The manager of the shop, Karush Sepedjian remembers the visit. He said: "El was kicking it out on the bench in front of the store and she came up. I overheard her saying, "Can you handle doing this? Can you get this done? What do you want for it"? They were talking about knocking off Kurt Cobain. Then El brought her inside and said to me quietly, "She offered me $50,000".
Now if that isn’t point enough to convince even the biggest doubter as to Kurt’s demise then I don’t know what else I can say. The argument from some is that El was a hardened drinker and frequently made things sound far worse than they in fact were - but with a witness, there is little reason to doubt this happening. El Duce went on to pass a polygraph test proving beyond doubt that he was telling the truth and that Courtney wanted Kurt dead before he could write her out of his will as intended, possibly leaving her with absolutely nothing. The discovery of El’s body on train tracks in Seattle, just after being witnessed with a strange character, has led many to believe that Courtney had him killed off in order to keep quiet about these events.
Report of El Duce’s death ….
On April 19th 1997, eight days after having his story filmed by Broomfield, Hoke was found dead in Riverside, California by the California Highway Police. A source described the events as "highly suspicious. He showed up at his house in Riverside with this guy who he introduced as his new friend none of his roommates had ever met before and said they were going out to the liquor store and would be back soon. He never returned. The 'friend' was never seen again and Hoke was found squashed on a railroad track, apparently hit by a train. Anybody who knew Hoke, according to his friends, knew that the best way to befriend him was to offer to buy him a drink. So the scenario is quite obvious."
Other areas of concern
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Upon filing a missing persons report regarding Kurt, Courtney pretended to be Kurt’s mother as opposed to herself, why ?
- The ejected shotgun shell was found to the left of Cobain’s body as opposed to the right (the side it SHOULD have been on), why ?
- When Tom Grant and Dylan Carlson (Frances babysitter) searched the Cobain residence, why did Carlson show Grant every area of the home except the greenhouse - the one area that Cobain actually was in ?
- If Dylan Carlson knew Kurt was suicidal, why did he buy the gun for Kurt ?
- When Courtney found out that Kurt fled rehab, why did she contact a PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR and not the POLICE first ?
- Upon business in Los Angeles, Courtney was informed of Kurt’s actions and that he was ‘suicidal’. Therefore why did she refuse to fly to Seattle to help him ?
- Courtney revealed that Kurt had written a second note prior to his suicide attempt in Rome. What she didn’t mention was that this such note contained information Kurt had written about getting a divorce. She eventually burned the note rather than hand it over. Why ?
- Fact will remain that it was not only Courtney who stood to benefit from Kurt’s death. Anybody from the surviving band members, the record label (Geffen) and Nirvana’s publishing company all stood to gain from his demise.
- All four tyres were found to be flat on Cobain's car, therefore preventing him from getting access to his money or getting away from the local area.
<><><><><><>& lt;><><><>
Although a side issue, the death of former Hole member Kristen Pfaff, just weeks after Kurt, leant further to the case of ‘cross Courtney and pay’. She had publicly, just as Kurt had done, aired her issues of discontent about Love’s demeanour, even at the risk of her own life. Having been very close to Kurt on both a personal and professional level, the twin deaths became a key point of the Cobain investigation. Pfaff was discovered locked in her bathroom, having supposedly taken her own life, something that is also in heavy doubt. It is believed that Courtney intended to silence her over any possible links with the Cobain case, upon fear that she may say something that she shouldn’t. Rumours that she was in fact murdered by the same individual who were responsible for Kurt’s death are as yet unproven, but it is an area of concern.
<><><><><><>& lt;><><><>
All I can give is my point of view on the events and the aftermath. Yes, I believe Kurt was murdered and nothing anyone says will make me see things differently, but for anyone that can understand the above information - how is this not a murder situation as opposed to the instantly announced suicide one. There are many number of characters involved here, any number of which may have been the main culprit - but FACT tells you that someone other than Kurt pulled that trigger and must be brought to justice. The only person that has profited from Cobain’s death is Courtney Love, and not being one to point the finger, I can’t say that she in fact killed Cobain, but without doubt she played her part.
