For anyone who was fortunate enough to be involved in this years Hoya "Round the Island" race then this will be old hat, but for everyone else - WOW!! This year saw 1,735 boats entered into the 8 hour race around the Isle of Wight. With extremely choppy seas and a strong South Westrely gale, this made for a real heart stopping days sailing. If you've never been to Cowes Week, then you're missing out. Cowes Week is one of the biggest sailing events in the calendar as Cowes, and the Isle of Wight is one of the best places in the world to sail. Regardless of whether you have an interest in sailing, you'll really enjoy it. Cowes (like most of the rest of the Isle of Wight) is a lovely place to be. It's a picturesque little town with a lovely clean see front (not beach though - so don't come expecting sand, you'll need to go elsewhere on the island for that), lots of little tourist shops, stands and street entertainers and a real buzz from all the activity and people.
