Something for Everyone (Cowes Week)

If you've never been to Cowes Week, then you're missing out. Cowes Week is one of the biggest sailing events in the calendar as Cowes, and the Isle of Wight is one of the best places in the world to sail. Regardless of whether you have an interest in sailing, you'll really enjoy it. Cowes (like most of the rest of the Isle of Wight) is a lovely place to be. It's a picturesque little town with a lovely clean see front (not beach though - so don't come expecting sand, you'll need to go elsewhere on the island for that), lots of little tourist shops, stands and street entertainers and a real buzz from all the activity and people. People visit from all over the world to see and take part in the sailing which is first class. There are literally hundreds of boats on show and taking part in the racing in the area, (900 boats go past Cowes every day!) and it's a great spectacle just for the casual spectator. Kids will enjoy the shops, the town and the general atmosphere, as will adults, and if you like sailing it's fantastic. There's plenty of other things on the Isle of Wight to enjoy, including great restaurants, pubs, places of interest etc. It's well worth going for the day - highly recommended. It's cheap to get there on the ferry, you can take a car with you but parking on the island is difficult and driving in Cowes is restricted due to the influx of pedestrians. The best bet is to park your car at Ocean Village in Southampton and walk to the ferry port (10 minutes roughly) and get the high speed ferry (approx £10 each, return), easy and cheap. Have fun!
