I HAVE POSTED SOME OF MY POETRY HERE PLEASE DO NOT READ ON IF EASILY OFFENDED AS CONTAINS ADULT THEMES AND LANGUAGE. I find poetry relaxes me. I sat down and wrote my first poem when I was ten and a half. A lot of people are afraid of poems for some reason, but I always look at it like a sort of diary. You can find lots of poetry online including sites where you can sunmit your work and enter competitions :www.poetry.com. I would suggest that you pop down to your local library and get a poetry anthology. There will also b details of local and national poetry competitions at your library. In fact there are lots of ''The Nation's Favourite..... Poems '' books which are collections of poetry on themes e.g Love, Travel, Children's available in the shops right now. I have spied them in WH Smith and Waterstones. A BBC Poll on this topic can be found at :http://www.poetrysociety.org.uk/bbcpoll.htm You don't have to read poetry to write it or vice versa but it is fun and can give you another way of looking at things or expressing yourself. I am now going to list some broad types that that I enjoy may appeal to you. If you like rhyme and structure try earlier works like Samuel Coleridge or William Blake for starters. Here are my favourite ''modern poets'' Humour and wordplay : Roger McGough Feminism : Carol Ann Duffy Nature: Ted Hughes Northern wit : Tony Harris You don't have to think of poetry as something deep and meaningful or something that bored you at school, it is something that speaks to or for you it is a matter of finding your own voice. Here is mine: 1. Just the one. the sky looked like the insides of your head as we made our livers tinged to stop the cadent past that seems to hold you hostage and I hear words spilling on the floor and I don't know w
here to look but anywhere but at you it makes my insides hurt to hear the fact that you are in the same place that i have been in for years. Do you think you're such a special cunt? 2. Past Form. the crackle of genetics the silence of a genepool drowning us all in the past that a piece of paper foretold. the ink should have been blood the paper made out of my skin for all the good it did me and you wonder why I wont take that Blake'd hearse eventhough I am stumbling and my feet are weary I would rather fall than fall for you. 3. tourist the birds look well fed while you all live on bachelor's beer and small white pills with crushed promises that glow like a seedy nightclub's dancefloor and the second hand clothes and second hand lives seem beautifully eccentric at the time and your wooden stairs bruised me while you ran away for the millionth time in your noncommital life 4. inevitable (part 1) I was sat pissing the day away when you said you would call and like the hundreds of teenage boys who pledged that troth before me you didn't you couldn't you wouldn't you won't whatever the reason this time men in the street all look like you and i find myself whispering words only meant for your ears you are a bastard you are the most beautiful bastard that ever lived to fuck and lied to be alone I know you like I k now my clit i know you and ive lived this shit that lies in an unmade bed and drinks all day to be half dead 6. inevitable (part 2) the death of friendship weighs on my chest snapping my ribs and i remain silent as you both talk of nothing imparticular how a death brought us here is not without a
sense of irony innocence and guilt iced in the drinks we use to drown the pain of the inevitable those outside may not understand but this match is over there is no extra time there is no result other than hurt and this pain in my chest 7. Amber. be it a traffic light in the car crash of my life be it a quicksand in the adventure but whatever it is you are with me when i sleep and make me stay inside my bed fighting with my head wishing i saw dead wanting words unsaid be it a traffic light that time before day is bright a cease fire in the fight make everything alright my life my life my life 8. The end. the rain poured and i was cold my feet were blue but your eyes were colder you steered and sneered into a conspiracy of two with your comfortable paranoia to keep you warm and i was tested and tested and the rain seemed like the only thing we had left to share but you will not give me shelter nor will i ask it is better to be alone with pneumonia than together and sick 9. Inevitable (part 3) you were never any good at DIY so where did the screwdriver fit in? you were never any good at the truth It was just a row you said In fact I can't see any good in you at all You pissed it all away So lie in that road Maybe the next car won't see you. And maybe you'll get your wish because you are no good at this living suicide. 10. Blue Little Jack Horner you are far from childhood Far from who I thought you were and even further from importance I poisoned my insides on the idea of you To find that the reality is something I don't want So smile that smile that I thought warmed me Just me.
