It is generally accepted that David Lloyd-George became Prime Minister due to Asquith's supposed ineptitude in his role as a wartime leader, which led many to question his ability. Prime examples of Asquith's shortcomings are the failure of the Gallipoli campaign, and critical munitions shortage which both took place under his government. Lloyd-George emerged as a government figurehead after Asquith's (arguably commendable) setting up of the coalition government.
