Reading several other reviews on this topic it looks like a lot of people have strong views when it comes to the influence television has on people. It appears some people have strong opinions on such things as the influence of violence and the influence of crime also. This is all fine as its all about different people's opinions but I want to take a different approach on this matter as I also know television is a way of learning stuff. I am not just talking about educational programmes and children's programmes but things like television shows and movies themselves. I posted a blog on my MySpace site a few years back and since then some of these ...  Read the complete review

When this category was first set up it would appear that TV violence and its impact on society was the greatest worry however in my view the past couple of yeras has seen the growth of an equally worrying phenomena in the guise of the reality TV show in its various forms from Big Bother which seems to reward the freakish to X-Factor which rewards the pub singer and wannabee. In fact all of these shows seem to perpetuate the message that fame and fortune is just one digested bug away for those who seek it. The worry for me is the kind of message that such programmes send out to young people who see it as the easy way to make a living and by its nature within ...  Read the complete review

Before I start, I do have a TV. I didn't for a long time, I made a purposeful decision not to have one. The oddest thing about not having a TV was peoples reactions when you told them that you didn't have one. Treated like some kind of freak, an outcast of society becvuase I'd decided not to have a little flashing box in the corner of my room. I mean TV is without a doubt a sickness in our society, but the most telling thing is the way you are treated for not having one. People would react with disbelief, question whether I was kidding, surely I must have a TV everyone does, don't they?! NO!!! There are millions if not billions of people across the world the do not have ...  Read the complete review

My daughter and I recently spent a few months without a television. It was a tough decision whether to get a new licence or not. We kept up-to-date with the news through newspapers and radio. It was bizarre that the conversation on the radio was all about television programmes like Big Brother and the Wimbledon tennis. It was strange wondering what faces would match the voices we were hearing. It was nice to do things whilst listening. In place of TV, we played games and made up stories, built furniture tents, and ate dinner without distraction. We went out for walks and played in the park. We did not lose anything living without a television ? we did ...  Read the complete review

I have just escaped from the year 2036 where televisions have taken over the world. Suspicions were aroused early in 2034 when France elected the first television President in the history of Politics, but it wasn't until December 2035 that humans began to get worried. In a small town in southern America, fifty rampaging televisions captured the Town Hall and began raising a terrible army. In just three months this army of televisions had swept through the rest of North America and with President Widescreen supporting them in France, Europe soon followed. By May, all humans were slaves to the terrible machines and I was packed off to Siberia (now a desert of sand due ...  Read the complete review
