Advantages: Loose weight feel fitter, better skin and hair, gain confidence
Disadvantages: you do have to be mindful of what you eat which isnt always fun!
It always astounds me the amount of people who are sucked in to fad diets where you have to stick to certain colour foods, live off of cabbage soup or ban certain food groups.
If I were to write a book on dieting it would say one simple phrase "Eat Less, exercise more". I dont believe there is any point in banning chocolate from your diet if you are a chocoholic or banning alcohol if thats your vice. There is no miracle cure and certainly no pill that can turn you into a supermodel.
I have lost two stone, all through being mindful of what I eat, reducing my portion sizes and not drinking all my calories. I still drink, eat crisps every day and have a pudding after dinner, I just make sure they are lower in calories, and healthier options. I have swapped my calorie laden tiramasu for chocolate moose.
Im a size 8-10 and I exercise 2 or 3 times a week and this helps burn anything extra I eat so that I can maintain my weight.
My advice to anyone who wants to start loosing weight is to do it slowly, start with something you find easy, for me it was to cut out all fizzy drinks and just drink water and herabl teas, then once you get used to that, stop snacking between meals. Your body will get used to this and then once it has if you need to loose more reduce your portion sizes. Its not a diet as such its just eating healthily. I always relax a bit on weekends and have a takeaway, but again instead of going for a tikka masala I will opt for a vegetable based meal, I actually now prefer it, so I would always advise trying something thats a bit healthier as if you find something you actully prefer it will take the hard work put of it and you wont feel like you are dieting at all.
Summary: Everyone can do it, just do it slowly and be sensible

- 27/10/08 I agree, banning something totally will only make you want it more and you'll be more likely to crumble, a few treats now and then will make the process less like punishment. |
